Console Bushes Needed - Anything else worth doing at same time?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Need the front console bushes replacing, is there anything else I should look at checking/replacing at the same time?

It looks the general consensus is to go for Ibiza console bushes too right?

best to fit powerflex pff85-602. much better design, better quality, easier to fit, lifetime warranty.

check arb bushes/drop links and bottom ball joints too

Thanks Rover, are they for the front end?

Highly unlikely. Not seen this bush fail on any polo fabia or ibiza.

Besides, the original bush can be a real mare to remove.

Personally I took the view that if it was coming apart I'd do everything I could at the same time. Total bill was £100 ish for new ball joints, wishbones, drop links, console bushes and bolts. Going with Powerflex has resulted in some people complaining about vibrations but it seems to be a diesel issue and doesn't affect everyone.

I'm not really thinking from a failing point of view but do you think it would improve the handling if i do both at the same time?

That's kind of what i'm thinking. I'm not carrying out the job myself as I don't want it falling apart! But whilst everything is apart anyway....

Mine failed MOT on this on Saturday, mainly due to my stupidity.

Replaced Console bush this time last year but didn't do the others while they were out.

Doh! Are they fairly near each other then?

P.S. What happened to your JOM coilovers?

Id be inclined to do ball joints too but that's about it (if using powerflex). Purely because in my experience the 3 bolts holding them to the wishbone have a tendency to shear.

They're pants! Took them out after 6 months as the ride quality was poor!

They're at opposite ends of the wishbone. Console nearer the rear and the smaller which I failed on nearer the front.

You are the first person I've ever seen mention a front wishbone bush failure on the Fabia.... You always get one :D

Lol I'm spechul!

Na it was inevitable, after putting in cupra bushes they were the next weakest point along with ball joints. All new parts just been ordered much at my wife's dismay but looking forward to getting it all fixed :)

Do you think the garage is likely to charge me much more for doing those too?

Car is at the Lion Garage in Leicester today. (VAG Indy).

Apparently the consoles are knackered so they are fitting a new set of those as well as the polybushes.

Call them and ask them to put in Seat Ibiza Cupra TDi ones, they'll last alot longer than the Skoda OE ones and are around the same price. Due to them being solid vs a X or a Y shape in the middle of the bush.

Part number is: 6LL407183

Got the car back today, all front wishbone bushes have been pollybushed and new consoles fitted. It's made a big difference to the handling, just need coil overs now!

Set me back £380 though...,.

Labour - £180

Parts - Consoles & Bolts etc £200

is it too stiff with little give? any extra vibrating in the cabin now?

Noticibly stiffer than the OEM setup but not a harsh rid at all. I think coupled with a set of coilovers it will be a massive improvement. Steering is a lot more responsive already.

No extra vibrating in the cab. On the front wishbone I went for Powerflex rear bushes and Superpro front bushes in the end.

Are you thinking of getting yours done?

Yes but only the console bushes and maybe arb bushes.

My console bushes are deadout and im replacing with what my mechanic is calling 'solid ones'. Hopefully these tighten up the front a little. Would like to have gone polypro etc but I trust my mech. He is my uncle after all!
