    Our local independant uses genuine VW transmission oil. There are probably several grades. Its stickered at about £15 a quart/litre, maybe the millers is less, but it is quaranteed to be the correct formulation.

    Are Vag known for occasionally using materials which may have compatability issues? Just thinking the GM(us) gearbox baulk rings, and some plastic bearing cages.

    Fuchs Sintofluid FE SAE 75W

    Meets the OEM G 052 171 A2 spec.

    The arguement on gearbox and engine oil has been had many times on here and my input as usual is...VAG don't produce their own synthetic oil so aslong as it meets the requirements they specify then use it.

    Rumour has it that the OEM transmission fluid that Skoda uses is manufactured by Fuchs.This has not been officially verified as far as I know.

    Ive also heard they use fuchs for engine oils when they come off the production line.

    Now if only I felt confident enough to change it! Or new someone who could ????

    Any recent garage/independent should be able to change the gearbox oil for you.

    can someone confirm it's a straight forward job or does this strange "overfill thro' reversing light switch " apply

    Didn't cause me a problem when I last had it changed. I just supplied the correct spec oil to my independent mechanic and that was that.
