what mileage did you change your clutch at?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

just wondering at what mileage did people have to replace the clutch on their Vrs? I have a 2007 Vrs Tdi 185000km (115000 miles) had it remapped today and found that under load high up it was slipping slightly due to the extra power. Before hand i felt that it was slightly sticky but the remap has just highlighted it even more so. i know that its usually around 110000 miles on most Audi's and VW's. So just wondering what other peoples experiences are? The remap was A1 transformed the car way smoother power delivery down low and up through the gears but this clutch problem means that i cant fully appreciate it yet!!

Mine was on 130,000 and still strong with no slip, totally standard.

Tends to be very dependant on driving style. I picked up my current Felly at 51k & had to replace the clutch around 63k. Still going strong at 112k but I know people who've killed clutches within 20k! I can normally get a shed load of miles out of mine but that's a combination of careful driving & a good few less horses under the bonnet! Quality of the clutch itself is also a factor. ;)

I killed a clutch on an Austin Maxi in about 2 miles.

An oil seal had gone

I got quite good at fitting them (30+ years ago)

A clutch in my 2001 mini cooper lasted two thousand miles ! And that was sensibly driven miles.

That is like asking how long is a piece of string.

253,000 miles on the slightly chipped 110BHP TDI Galaxy, and used for heavy towing during a self build project.

Plus driven through fields and rough ground when necessary.

Origonal factory clutch still absolutely 100%.

Apart for the very very occasional mechanical glitch,

it is ALL down to driving style.

I tried to edit above to add that while growing up on a farm, until my twenties or thirties, I NEVER remember a clutch being fitted to either a car or a tractor (20 year old light loader tractor included)

All cars and tractors were bought new and kept for umpteen years until completely done.

But the clutch would still be OK.

Basically no tractors were ever sold of or traded in.

All still mostly working.

Generally a couple of hundred thou put on cars incl for some cattle trailer towing.

35K but my DMF knackered it so was all changed at the same time under warranty.

DMF failure here ...

It was noticed at 35k, changed at 59k for a stage 2 LOBA Sachs effort much better.

Looking back at the cars 'history' before I bought it,the DMF/Clutch were done at 82,000miles. Never had to have a clutch replaced on any car I've owned so far. Last one,my old Vectra 2.5GSi was still on the original clutch/slave cylinder at 150,000 when I sold it.
