Dealer Decals - God save us !

Featured Replies

How many dealer applied decals and free advertising did your new car come with ?

There seems a trend for dealers to think they have a God given right to apply as many free adverts to our cars as they can think of places to put them, never once asking if we mind acting as a mobile billboard.

My Fabia came with no less than 5 seperate dealer logos and adverts applied to it. Needless to say, on the day of delivery, it left said dealer minus the scripted lettering on the tailgate and since then the others have gone west. I am left only with the legally required details to the number plates.

It's a bl**dy cheek in my opinion.

Am I alone in this winding me up and is 5 not taking it a little bit far ?

I had: Window Sticker, Plates, Tax Disk Holder and Transfer going around the rear boot badge advertising mine when i got it..... apart from plates, all gone now!

Mine had one about skoda sponsoring the football, below the normal dealer sticker. Asked the dealer to take the football one out.

Then my rear window caved in for no apparent reason and the replacement was all sticker free

Just the tax disc holder and the number plate.

I had the number plate, tax disc and rear sticker, it is annoying really. But I've seen worse! Southall Honda stick it on the bodywork too as do a few peugeot dealers!

Number plates only and very subtle too - bare legal requirement. Had to ask for a tax disc holder otherwise would have lost the disc round the first bend....

Infact come to think of it didn't even get a key fob or anything.... totally brand free....

Mine has tax disc holder (still need to put the Briskoda one in, the shame of it as I bought it ages ago).

There is a sticker for the Skoda/AA help, this may well end up being removed/moved.

Nothing on the back of the car beside the numberplate, but then I did make it clear I didn't want them and the dealer also removed the vRS logo from the back at my request. I may remove the Fabia logo at some stage, but for now it's gonna stay put ;)

Small green text on the number plates, the usual sticker in the back window and a tax disc holder. I'm debating removing the rear window sticker, not sure yet.

I knew the dealer was likely to put the scripted lettering on the tailgate so I ordered it and specified it without at that point. Didn't bother asking them to remove their normal dealer sticker but would get them to not put it in on any future car.

I saw it in a couple of replies, but is the dealer details a legal requirement on number plates ? wouldn't have thought so ????

The one on the number plate is fine by me, it's subtle enough.

The AA/Skoda sticker at top-left is not generally in my view so it's probably gonna either be left or moved into the handbook so I still have the details on it handy.

The tax disc - what are the legal requirements for positioning it? I'd be keen to move it to the top-left of the windscreen instead of bottom-left, is that allowed?

When the number plate format changed a few years ago it became a legal requirement for whoever made the plates to have their name and postcode on it so that they could be identified. I think it has something to do with redicing crime but I'm not 100% sure.

My Fabia came with just a very subtle tax disc holder and the number plates...

which was nice :)

Mine had some on the plates, but changing the plates over sorted that. I actually asked my friend to put his company on the plates as a bit of an ad for him to help him.

The lettering on the bodywork really winds me up - thankfully I've never bought a car from a dealer who tried that on. How would they feel if I got some stickers made up for my company and went and stuck them on the dealership window?

Just number plates for me. Had a LloydsTSB Carselect in the rear window.

That would be interesting to see just a shame it would probably be regarded as criminal damaged as they already own the windows.

A never-ending source of amazement to me is the number of people driving around in really expensive 4X4's with the spare wheel mounted outside, emblazoned with the dealer's name and details!

If I was wealthy enough to be able to purchase this type of vehicle, the first thing I'd do would be to demand a plain cover for the spare. The dealers are laughing all the way to the bank - first they take thousands of pounds from you - then expect you to drive around giving them free advertising!!

I only had it on my rear window, which I removed of course.

It is a legal requirement for all new plates made to have the makers name and postcode on the plate.

The plates on your car are legal as long as they have the correct font and spacings and all new plates should have the british standard printed on the background and in the plastic.

If you "Know" someone who will make you a non identifiable plate then the person selling it is breaking the law but your plates are still perfectly legal.

My Octavia had rear window sticker, tax disc holder and plates. It now has none and the plates are clear apart from small logiclee writing on the bottom ;)

The best was the Fabia, it has plain number plates but had the supermarket rear window sticker and tax disc holder.

When I took it for a service at our local dealer the dealer removed the supermarket decals and fitted dealer decals in their place.

Didn't notice until I washed it.

Cheers

Vindis?

Vindis?

After seing what these guys did to there cars - I specified no decals whatsoever. And thats what I got!

unfortunately they haven't been able to cure the minor problems with my car. A letter to them has been sent - one very unhappy customer as far as the service dept is concerned...

You bought a car off them? I didn't think anyone ever did  I sit up all night waiting for something to print and we rarely print quotes off.

Last time I looked at their stock, it was full of Rovers.

just plates and "its a skoda honest" :D
