2.0tfsi vrs sounds like a diesel!

Featured Replies

After some advice.

Car sounds fine on initial start up then as the engine warms up the car sounds more and more like a diesel really ticky.

Ive changed the oil hoping that will cure it but to no avail.

Car has 67,000 on the clock and a revo map if that helps

Advice would be muchly appreciated

This sounds like a similiar problem as mine, its not bad but annoys me all the same

When you changed the oil did you run a flush through it? If it's tappety put a flush in and run it for a while(100 miles or so) then you will have to drop the oil again.

This will ensure it has time to get in all the lifters etc

Mine sounds very low in the engine bay on the left hand side

Stevo82 cheers no i didnt flush it but i will give it a go!

Dakar its sooooooooo annoying fella mine seems to be coming from the same place aswell. I just dont understand it as i look after the car even though i do give it beans every now and then ;)

Low down on the left, is that not near the bell housing ie DMF?? Maybe starting to show signs, as once warm will be fully expanded etc??

The TFSi engine is referred to be some as "VW's diesel sound-a-like". They all sound a bit dervish

All of the TFSI engines sound a bit deasily to my ears - my mk5 golf gti was the same. IIRC the tappety noise is nothing to worry about, its the fuel pump i think?

Mines not that much different to that :'( but its never gone below min on the oil as levels are checked every week.

In the comments below the vid someone mentions the high pressure fuel pump cam bucket excuse my ignorance but is that the same as the cam follower? as i know the tfsi are prone to the cam follower wearing

TFSI is quite noisey with the injectors, fuel pump.

If its excessive rattling from gearbox side of engine, its possible that the cam chain has strectched.

The tfsi has a cam belt doesnt it?

The cambelt drives inlet cam only, on the other end of the camshaft is a chain which then drives exhaust cam

Mine too has the ticking noise and my mechanic you only works on VAG Cars says its to do with the TFSI System thing and showed me where the noise is from and its located just under the engine cover to the right. Apparently its a normal thing.

As mentioned in the other thread, I have driven 3 different TFSIs and none sounded as horribly as that one. That is to say, on one of those 3 could I hear the knocking from the cabin.
