Gave my red girl a well deserved wash and t-cut

Featured Replies

Could be a nice looking car!

You really really need to refit your foglight covers!

Showing intercooler pipework is NOT cool in the slightest

Also ditch the sticker on the bumper (looks like a scratch)

Get some red parking sensors

Refit a backbox

At the minute looks rather mcdonalds / chav bucket

Wait on a minute.....

T-Cut is nowhere near as bad as people are making out.

I have over 7 years experiance 'detialing' with many polishers and products. I have paint guages, £180 Swissvax Best of Show wax - the full works and have done excluding my own cars about 30 of other peoples.

T-Cut is mild in the big scheme of things and not actually as bad as people make out in terms of finish etc

Don't get me wrong its not the best by a long shot - nothing is compared to using a rotary polisher..... But this fear of it and opinion its some how a really aggressive paint wrecker is just not the case at all.

I can't find it, but ages ago saw a video of somebody with a scrap panel using it to prove a point. He had the rotary on full blast for about 5 minutes in the same spot with t-cut and it didnt burn the paint, go through the clear coat or anything.

The best thing I have ever found to use by hand is Autoglym Super Resin Polish. Its cheap, easy to use and does a really good job.

There are some fillers in it, so a fair few swirl marks etc are covered up nicely.

You will never really get them out by hand.... so let this fill them with ease.

Its also in Halfords and many other places so you dont have to mess about online.

I do need it macheine polished really but really that money isnt it for somebody that knows what they are doing?

I used to use that Augoglym Super Resin Polish on my corsa c i had because it had a fresh paint job on it (arden blue) and a black roof that was like glass so out cam,e the super resin polish once a week lol

Machine polishing is not as dangerous as you think (as long as your sensible), but getting a good finish and removing/altering scratches etc is where the skill is.

Its also expensive as good machines and polishes add up.

That said, paying somebody whos good wont be cheap - I only do the odd car now and then (for fun/job satisfaction) but would charge £120 for the day minimum. People doing it as their proper job would be more - a lot more probably.

So when you look at it like that, getting your own stuff and learning about it all starts to make sense.

All that said, you can still get a really good finish with things like Super Resin - only you know just how perfect you want it to be......

So after this t-cut, what do u recommend for the next step, what products ect

Autoglym Super Resin Polish

Apply, leave 30 mins and wipe off with a microfiber cloth.

It only needs a thin layer, dont go silly or its harder to get off.

You could buy a wax to then go on top, if so the Autoglym HD wax is VERY good and better than nearly every wax regardless of price.

Again, apply thinly then wipe off after about 30 mins.

Re-apply the wax every 3/4 weeks, or everyday if you really wanted.

Collinite 476S wax if your lazy! Lasts a good 3 months!

Could also put a sealer on it! Autoglym do one. Extra gloss or something

Collinite pretty much always leaves residual solvents on the paint in my expecriance. You can wipe them off.... but why should you have to. It also never lasts anywhere near 3 months on a car thats used daily.

The autoglym wax is trouble free - you cant go wrong with it.

No need for any sealents, its pointless. Super resin polish is also a bit of a sealent in its own right so if your that fussed its already done.

Also its called a wax, but like all of them anyway its a man made synthetic, so had all the modern technology etc

The autoglym wax is also designed to go perfeclty on top of other autoglym products.

Seriously... you cant go wrong with that combination. I have spent many MANY hundereds of pounds of differnet products over the years and for hand application this combo is unbeatable.

Cheers for all that Fred. Your a legend. I think I will go with the autogylm super resin polish like I used to use. Like u say u can't go wrong. Red square on the front isn't it?

What about claying n all that and mopping that I've heard about?

Claying is worth it if you have a load of little deposits on the paint.

If the car has not been done for a few years (or never) then it would benefit.

When people talk about mopping they usually mean with a machine polisher at a bodyshop or something.

And yes, SRP has a red square on the front.

I'm going to buy a tar remover and fall out remover for mine before I clay it.

FK1000P is brilliant and lasts for ages! Mine really needs doing again now.
