Airbag light

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have plugged vcds into my vrs and it has shown some errors on the airbags and also says crash data stored, firstly I would have thought there would have been an airbag light lit with there being errors and crash data but I get no light at all even when first starting up so I am a bit at loss as I thought it should light up as a test indicator when first started.

Also if there is crash data stored is it possible with vcds to read this data ie date of crash which airbags were deployed if any.

Many thanks in advance

it sounds like your airbag bulb has been removed, and if you were to have the bulb/led replaced then it will indeed be lit. When you turn on the ignition the airbag light should come on for a couple of seconds and then go out.

you cannot read the crash data, but the fact some is recorded would suggest that one of the front airbags has deployed at some point. perhaps the other errors are related to missing airbag(s)?

This is what I was thinking is it easy to replace check the bulb for starts then I will have to look for a airbag ecu

Yes, instrument cluster comes out easy enough. as you say you'll need to replace the airbag ecu as it cannot be reset once crash data has been stored.

Does anyone know what type of bulb do I need

It's a surface mounted LED on the circuit board, the chances are that it's just had a bit of black tape placed over the reverse side of the graphic to obscure the light.
