Slik 500

Featured Replies

Has anyone added the oil additive Slik 500 which makes all sorts of claims regarding engine life, fuel consumption etc. Does it work? and how does it affect your warranty?

Do you mean Slick 50? If so, read this while you wait for further replies.

So it's a no then

I used Slick 50 on my first car (Mk I Escort 1.1) nearly 30 years ago. It was already 12 years old so might have been too worn already (I got it at around 120K) but there was a slight improvement. Unfortunately the improvement wasn't to make it any quicker :( but it did help kept its momentum when going uphill. I can't have been that convinced, however, as I've not bothered with it since!

Brother used it in one of his older cars, result was that it ended needing a full engine rebuild a short time later. Of course we cannot say wether the Slik 50 caused it, but the engine was running fine before he used it.

I've never understood these additives.

It replaces an amount of oil, so needs to be better than the oil.

If it's better than the oil, why isn't it sold like crazy and everyone raves about it?

My opinion is that there is no need to add any additive, not to fuel and not to oil.

You have a relatively new car , running perfectly, why add all sorts of alien substances?

It tells you in the handbook not to add anything.

Snake Oil.

Nothing more needs to be said.

Snake oil? got gallons of the genuine stuff in my garage - interested, make me an offer!!
