Alloy wheel refurb

Featured Replies

Does anyone have any recommendations for alloy wheel refurbishment in South East Wales please. Mine need a bit of tlc, not helped by an 'other half incident' ....

Also how do they actually deal with the deeper surface scratches?

Thanks

Adam

Bet you weren't pleased about that!

Only place I know is in Hereford (Hereford Tyres) which is a bit out of SE Wales. They do great service for tyre fitting & full geometry alignment, but I get a feeling they ship out wheel refurbs though.

Know of a good place in Bridgend, rennowheel, not cheap mind has a quote of £75 per wheel

Ok not in Wales but should give the OP an idea of the process of a full refurb:

http://www.myalloys.co.uk/process - I and friends have used this company before and the finish is excellent.

You should confirm if powder coating or respraying? Whilst powder coating finish initially looks great I've had some mixed experiences (not from the attached firm in the link) - sometimes the powder coat finish can be quite thick which can make it difficult to re-seat alloys to the brake discs / hubs without damaging the surface finish of the refurbed alloys - this eventually results in a breakdown in the finish. I've also had powder coat finishes craze after a couple of years.

If you get a mobile repair to refurb the cost is usually less but IMO the finish is not as durable as a full refurb (usually the cheapest means if you are offloading the car) - the deeper scrapes are usually repaired using a filler and then paint matched - although all silver alloys look similar, a decent repairer will take their time to match the paint.

Great info chaps thanks

The Wheel Specialist do an excellent job. Not cheap, but a full powder coat in a range of colours. I used the Manchester branch, but they have branches in Wales.

Quick question: what type of finish is on the Skoda alloys from factory? Not asking about any special wheels, just the standard ones such as the Orions or the Pegasus, for example.

I work for a firm called Perfectadent based in Bridgend. In June we will be running an offer on sets of 4 wheels powder coated from £160 +VAT.

We have over 7 years experience in PDR, panel repairs and alloy refurbishment (previously faces only), but we are in the process of commissioning the powder coating & tyre fitting equipment. The offer will include free wheel removal, silver basecoat /lacquer, tyre refitting & re-balancing using state of the art lever-less tyre fitting equipment. Surcharges may apply for wheels over 20", single wheels or custom colours.

Join us on Facebook to keep up-to-date with our offers!
