I wish I hadnt traded you In GF11 UMX

I think its interesting that people compare the Octy vrs to the Fabia but the diesel Octy really isn't sporty at all , its a sporty looking family car that's all . The stock Octy brakes do fade quite quickly and aren't inspiring at all , the stock car has loads of body roll and you really feel the weight through the corners , the tendency to understeer when pressing on through roundabouts is guaranteed to give you 50p-5p moments .

The power delivery of the diesel is like most diesels pretty much all or nothing

Getting a good 0-60 time isn't easy , my old car made 198hp but I still couldn't crack a sub 9 second time playing around with dynolicious on a private road , I've had a 7.0 out of my stock Fabia and TWO seconds difference is loads.

That's not to say the Octy is a bad car its not, but lets not infer for a minute it hasnt got its fair share of issues just like its smaller cousin , its far from perfect and very much the poorer version to its petrol brother in the performance stakes

That's my opinion on owning one for 7 years and 83,000 miles

I don't regret chopping it in for the Fabia one bit but I do miss the space in the boot and the fantastic range , they are good solid family cars with a few sporty touches but hot hatches they are not.

But if I only could have one car the Octy would win hands down , solid , practical , reliable but a little dull quite the opposite of the little Fabia

  • Its never good looking back at your Ex and realising she is sooo much hotter than your current 'sensible' ride.... Especially the thought that another man is now rubbing her bodywork and having his w

  • I'm a diesel convert, I'm afraid I never work out how many 000 miles I need to do to get the extra purchase price back, I just like seeing 60-70+ mpg showing on the trip computer I'm sad like that

  • Nice to see something positive about the vRS amid all the doom and gloom on here. I'll have to be very desperate before I get another diesel.

Im not the first person on here Jabo to criticise its suspension or brakes; also insinuating the problems are down to me not knowing how to drive a car properly is very unfair; id never claim to be the worlds best driver but id like to think in my 15 years behind the wheel; the early years spent driving (frankly carp, underpowered and unsafe) cars to to their limits without novelties such as ABS, Airbags, ESP and XDS and the like without incident and lots of other things since leaves me well enough informed to criticise the Fabias dynamic shortcomings.

Its a good value for money car no doubt but as ive said all along its my opinion only but other than the engine and gearbox the car is quite dynamicly weak; neutered largely by the fact the cars based on an older platform than the Polo and Ibiza and also that they probably had orders from VAG not to make it better to drive than either.

In any case the OP said they regretted getting rid of mine, I think its quite apt and relevant to post on here that all in all whilst I miss bits of it im not really sorry to see it go at all.......people on here do seem to get upset as soon as anything negative is said about the Fabia vRS....seemingly a car that can do no wrong in some peoples eyes.

Anyway I think weve probably digressed enough......actually im considering signing out of here for the very last time as there doesnt seem to be anything like a good debate on here any more; seems to be the case of speak positively about the related car or get moaned at for slating it when you offer up something thats not a glowing report.

You got that All wrong so I apologise if I clearly made you fell the way you described.

I think there's a difference between offering personal impressions about the car, and indeed there's plenty of members expressing the same opinion as you do, and offering an "objective" analysis. Give the same car to 10 different people and when you read heir reports/experiences you will be excused for thinking you are reading observations based on driving 10 different cars :D.

Again, I am sorry if you took it too personal and apologise for my brashness in this regard.

But I still think one cannot compare Octy vRS and Fabia vRS ;)

@ RichF

Funny you mentioned under steer. When I test drove Octy3 with 1.6 oil chugger ( and I will be buying Estate version of it soon) that was the biggest problem I had, massive under steer! That with complete lack of chassis feedback will never make it into anywhere near Fabia vRS stomping grounds. After that test drive I went back into my vRS and drive exactly the same route. Night and day difference, everything was a class better in my personal opinion. No under steer, good chassis feedback ( by well controlled limited body roll-I just like cars with controlled body roll, can read them better than board stiff ones) and truck loads more of agility !

Hat's my personal opinion based on back to back drives inboth cars along the same route minutes apart :).

But I still think one cannot compare Octy vRS and Fabia vRS ;)

Absolutely its like comparing apples and orang-utans

You got that all wrong

It's always someone else

Facepalm smiley anyone?
