Hyundai's Suicide Ad Gone Down Well Then...

Featured Replies

Oh dear, I think someone is going to lose their job for that.

Particularly dumb and insensitive.

Downright stupid IMO.

Did it even get launched, or is it just an idea from the ad agency (which Hyundia may have turned down)?

Personally, I don't have a problem with it, although I can fully understand why people do.

Apparently the ad agency is in-house at Hyundai so they would have known all about it

Ah. Not so good then. Still doesn't mean they approved of it though - it might have been internally condemned and leaked by an annoyed ad-man or something.

I don't think anyone's going to lose their job.

The advert was designed to go viral, and it has gone viral. Lots of people will watch that video and suddenly be aware of a new model of car Hyundai make and realise that it's water only emissions.

Bad taste? Yes, effective? Most certainly.

Surely just a joke / poor attempt at humour.

There was the one from VW with a suicide bomber where the bloke just blew up inside the car but it stayed intact on the outside? In a similar taste?

Or this AUDI one:

I have to wonder if this is real. It looks polished, but could it be the Hyundai tagline has been spliced on the end of something else? Or even the pipe in the window has been added to a hyundai ad, taking the whole thing out of context? There are some spectacular advertising fails out there, but I find it hard to believe this is a genuine release from a major car manufacturer. Just a thought.

A banned advert? Yeah baby. No such thing as bad publicity. If it's banned people will go out of their way to find it. Relax got to number 1 despite (or maybe in spite of) being banned by the BBC.

If it's genuine, will probably become one of the most watched videos on youtube.

Spot on rainbow fire , nothing like a banned advert

Part of me thinks this fuss is way overblown. Ultimately everyone's losing their cool over a man not killing himself. All the most enjoyable things in life are the most controversial, after all. Like fast driving. Deeply controversial but also hugely enjoyable when the time is right. A controversial advert can be enjoyable from a certain point of view.

Personally I think this ad has the potential to offend, but the audience chooses how to react - nothing has the power to force you to object to something. Only the individual can choose to kick up a fuss. And half the time I think the internet complainers are just after attention for themselves.

I realise not everyone will agree with my thoughts but hey. If people's opinions offend you then I hear North Korea is nice this time of year... ;)

Totally. The fact it's been talked about mean it is a good advert.

Expect a a half hearted apology from the company any time soon

Yep ! However I understand how it could hit a raw nerve in folk!, as it did with me :( a very close friend ended his life this way many years ago when he found his BH in bed with another fella :(

The other problem, regardless of "water emissions" (smells like BS) exhaust through the window will still kill you. Displacing oxygen does that.
