Air Filter Housing

Featured Replies

Looking at the air filter housing on mine (might be different from the vRS) - is it just me, or is this box "sealed" except for a small tubular vent next to the wheel arch side? Or am I missing something?

Surely this would restrict the air flow into the engine severely, and cause a concentrated build up of dirt in one position on the filter?

Rob,

you're right it's sealed with the intake being via the inner wing.

Not entirely sure how the air flows in the box but I think it comes in at the bottom and flow out through the top. The filter is horizontal so this will give the maximum(?) surface area through which the air is passed.

I think there is some kind of air trumpet in the box which perhaps gives a ram air effect? Also a grid thing just before the MAF which straightens out the air flow.....apparently.;)

Someone is bound to the know the proper answer to it all.

Cheers.

Adrian.
