New Rapid - rattles

Recommended Posts

Hi new here. Just counted how many skoda's in my immediate family at present - 7 octavia's and now 1 new Rapid. My father in law bought a new 1.6tdi rapid. Has it two weeks and he's not very happy. It has an annoying rattle. If it was an old high mileage car, you would say there was a bearing going. If you travel on a smooth asphalt surface it practically goes away, but on rougher surfaces it is there. Its been back to dealer, and they say they cannot find anything wrong.

Has anyone else with a new Rapid found rattles or noises that should not be there on a new car. He traded in a 2008 Octavia tdi, which was perfect and smooth - great car.

Also where is the Rapid built? is it different to the Octavia?

Thanks.

Hi I just picked up my new Rapid 1.2 (105ps) SE ex Demo

Its a good idea of a car and looks good on the outside, and lots of good equipment inside,,however I have door rattle issues after 7 days and less than 3000 miles, its very noticable and I perhaps need advice to get this sorted on the warranty as after 2 weeks of owning this car I would not accept this, my old VRS after 7 years had no rattles so spending over 13K I expect it to be better than this...

Any views appreciated or where I can speak with Skoda a phone number to contact them..

By the way the car is great on paper but the cheap plastics are an issue, and I think the cause for the rattles...

Thanks

Chris

Contact details for Skoda Customer service are on the website - they're actually quite vigilant in calling you back if you use the contact form on that page.

I'd suggest first though going to your local Skoda dealer, and offering to take them out in it to point out the rattle.

Hope you can get it sorted satisfactorily.

Thanks very much for the reply, I just keep driving this car and I love skodas but I dont think I can live with it being noiser than my 7 year old VRS,... apart from this I can accept the other little niggles in quality , I find Skodas to be refrshingly understated how I like them..this is the first time I felt a little disappointed

I will contact skoda and post my findings for anyone else.. to have a read.. and hope they can sort it out..

Many thanks love this forum..

Kind Regards

Just take it to the dealer for a fix like you would for any other issue. Only issue I had with my current Octavia was a tailgate rattle. Turned out to be an electrical connector that had popped out of its clip. DM Keith Bradford fixed it and gave me a courtesy car while they did it. No fuss, no argument, no charge!!

Thanks, I posted this issue just to see if anyone else had this problem, but you are right.. the dealer actually has been great I feel a little annoyed I have to report such aa fault early on .. but this sometimes happens..I know, however my dealer is 132miles away should be interesting...Also mine is the SE model no foglights or Cruise I am bringing this up as well... Basically not a very good launch for a car in my eyes to many little things that make a big impact on the overall feel..

I will keep you posted and I am confident Skoda will sort out..

Best

Well car is going in Friday to skoda dealership in Milton Keynes..the rattle in the plastics at 20 MPH are so bad when driving around the estate that it makes the car worse than my 7 year old VRs..I am very annoyed with this as the car costs me £14K..and to have this noise is unbearable...I am not a fussy person but if you sat in my car and drove out my estate every mornig with rattles like this you would be in a bad mood every day...

I am sorry guys as I thought this car was gloing to be good but the cheap plastics might bite me and I will hand the car back as its not fit for purpose at this point..

anyone else having issues...

Thanks on the note about SE..I did not think things changed so quick in specs on cars...but you were spot on..however the dealer advertised it with fogs and cruise..so I took that up with them..they still have a rapid on thier site with the same text as they used on my car and the car clearly does not have fog light and cruise..spoke with Skoda today told them to sort it out..

I am feeling pretty crap about this car as you can tell but if Skoda can sort out the rattles I will be happy skoda person as this is my third..we shall see..

Thought I had a rattle develop in the past week - turns out it was my sunglasses in the holder near the interior light :giggle:

He hasn't got a pair of glasses in there has he?

Another thought - it shouldn't happen, but it isn't the seat belt height adjustment is it? Mine's fine, but it's the most likely candidate in terms of the interior trim I can think of.

There is definitely a noise coming from my seat beat adjustment. It only happens if set to the top (but as I am 6' 2" then that is where mine is set), but as it is beside my ear it is slightly irritating. I have grown used to it and if I have the radio on it isn't that bad.

Thanks guys, I took my Skoda back to wayside Milton Keynes to sort out the rattles under warranty, at 20mph I get quite a few creeks and rattles..

First test they did was to take out a brand new one, then they drove mine to compare, to be honest it is more likley to be poor plastic mountings and poor rubber fixings that cause these issues.

I left the car with them all day. I got a phone call saying it had al been done, well what they meant is that they checked it out and could not fins anything , even the old one "sat nav holder in glove compartments was used" But in thier defence they did a good Job and offered further to explore the rattle situation, and would strip the doors down if I wanted them too. Of course my feeling is that they would not get to the heart of the problem and stripping down plastics almost always means they never get put back the same way, I did not want to take this risk on a nearly new car.

I guess some people think splashing out £13990 , on a SE Model fully loaded means that this is a budget car, I disagree -any car manufacture selling new cars £14K listen...This is alot of money and rattles like this should not be included in the price..

Wayside were very good to thier credit the lady on the service desk was excellent... they do genuinely want to keep customers happy and they want skoda buyers to be happy, it is just a shame I could not really find this rattle out before buyin the car.. as I might of considered something different.

it is irrating but I have to live with it or change brand/car... I bought an ex-demo with 2K miles, it is in black with sunset glass , Sat Nav, sports seats , 17inch alloys, Climate... I think this is good value for money, however it is still important for Skoda to realise that budget cars should not rattle , funny thing is the card drives well for a 1.2 SE model and I do love the simple control layouts of skoda..I wish I worked for them as I reckon I could improve this model no end..all it takes is some little changes to this model to make it amazing.

I am still a happy Skoda person after all this, as I did test drive Kia cars, peugot cars and various others.. and you cannot beat the way Skoda / (the Germans) design these cars, but keep the price down , listen to customer feedback more and stop creeping up prices... , add in innovative design, and you will keep that magic formula ..oh and customers...

Rgds

So you still have your rattle then? :( Maybe take a friend out with you who can apply pressure to various parts of the interior plastics to see if the rattling magically stops at any point.

I still think the most likely area is going to be the seat belt height adjustment.

i agree, i think this is the best thing you can do, to find where the rattle sounds from and then try to elminate it

Anyone come up with a solution for the seat belt adjustment rattle? I've tried moving it up and down, but there is still a bit of a buzz...

Cheers,

Tim

I had a rattle like this in my Roomster coming from the seatbelt adjustment and it was straight in my ear and then I decided to stuff a piece of paper (tissue) under the pillar's trim by lifting a bit the sealing rubber which is above the trim.

I also think there was a directive - campaign for rapid's boot door due to rattling on uneven road and road bumps, but I don't know the code number of that directive. I think it's 55 something (as we say 24w6 for wastegate actuator).

that must be what they did to mine. They thought it was for the leak but it did not cure that, so it must have been for the rattling (although I hadn't noticed any)
