What have you done to improve the handling of your Fabia?

Anyone who is willing to take a chance, and is driven by a shortage of cash might go for these:

Why do I say this?....because quite a few years ago I had a Toyota MR2 (mk1) which needed new shocks and the main availability was either Koni (expensive) or KYB (a lot cheaper).I fitted KYB all round and was more than happy, everyone on the forum confirmed my thoughts that they were a good upgrade,a lot stiffer than standard, despite the bargain price.

...and they were just the normal "Excel-G" type, the link above is to the supposedly higher grade "Ultra" type.

I will do dampers, springs and bushes all at same time, I don't like having to take bits apart twice if it can all be done in one hit.

Best thing to do as I've bitterly discovered. Better save up and wait till you can do everything together rather than one every year. Add the rarb on your list and you just won't believe this is the same car you handed over...

  • 3 weeks later...

So, after a couple of weeks with the Whiteline RARB and Eibach sport kit, I thought I should report my findings.

RIDE: At first I thought the ride was actually improved, which surprised me, as I expected the shorter, firmer springs to create a crashier ride. Then I started feeling a few jolts on rougher roads. I suppose what is going on is that the the springs are successfully dispensing with smaller dips, but can't deal as well with the larger ones. Would a shock absorber upgrade sort this out, or is it simply a new characteristic to put up with?

HANDLING: Much improved at 7-8/10. I can weave through roundabouts comfortably. The Audi S4 I was following to work yesterday was unimpressed at being unable to shake me off, at least until it hit a straight stretch and could "bark" its way up to limit busting speed. Funnily enough, again it feels like there is a limit, and it is the same limit as before. I wasn't able to go around the 270 degree turn that started me on the quest to improve handling any quicker than I have before. I will try again, but maybe the car's limits (limitations?) remain fixed; you can just more easily operate in the areas just short of those fixed limits?

RATTLES: A couple of times I've had rattles start, but they've gone before I've figured out whether they are from loose equipment, or part of the dash, tailgate etc. The car has started juddering a couple of times on ripply surfaces, so it's fair to say lowering may well exacerbate any existing problems, and perhaps create some more.

All in all, I am happy, however. As many have stated, this is probably how the car should start from the factory. It's probably still not going to compete with the hottest of hot hatches, and I don't think it was ever intended to, but it's closed the gap.

Well don't blame me! If Superpro cared to update their bush listings a long time ago as they should have done, I would have received the bushes by now and off I would be for installation this Friday as booked. This darn box keeps getting in my way in the living room...

Have these things been put to work yet??!! Waiting like a dog for his dinner on your thoughts of these!!!

Nop, I've been away but tomorrow's the big day for these babies and the Superpro full kit with Anti-Lift...
