Corrosion under front edge of bonnet

Featured Replies

I had the bonnet open on our Octavia Scout this evening, giving things a quick wash off before I cleaned the outside of the car, and I happened to notice a load of rust along the bottom leading edge of the bonnet, just under the main grill. The paint's peeling off, and what's underneath is looking decidedly rusty. See the picture for details.

The car was bought new in September 2010, and usually gets cleaned every two weeks, or more frequently if I have time. I don't normally clean under the bonnet though, and I guess I don't usually look up when I'm topping up the washer fluid (usually in the dark, anyway).

Would this be covered by the warranty, either generally or on 'body protection'?

If not, what's the best thing to do to stop it getting worse?

Spooky!

I have a June 2010 2.0PD TDi Scout in Anthracite and I have exactly the same. I noticed it about a month ago. Since the cambelt and Haldex oil are due to be replaced/renewed this month I was going to bring up then. It should be a warranty job as I have done nothing to cause this. Car is washed practically every week.

I have also recently noticed delamination to the bonnet and boot badges, one of the alloys (AGAIN!) and one of the rear number plate lights is rusty!

All of which I will be raising with dealer in the next week or so.

I would definately say that is covered under warranty, that looks really bad for a 2010 car.Mine is 2006 and i have no rust anywhere.

Good luck hope you get it sorted.

Should be an easy fix as that part is a seperate piece to the bonnet itself and is riveted on at each end iirc.
