HID's fitted. Do I have a problem? Pics included...

Featured Replies

Hi people. Fitted my new lights from Wingmirrorman and 2 sets of HID's from HID's direct. Both 55w 10k. Had them on my old corsa show car and loved em.

Long story but list a clip off the headlight so one was effectively useless. Found it today so I was buzzin. Sorted em both out. Happy again.

Only problem is is the lights seem to be everywhere. Well not everywhere but they seem to shine away from the car towards the pavement and the other lane on the road. To be honest I can't see much.

Do I just need them aligning?

Here's a pic of it lookin alright from the outside

And here's from inside the car

What dya think?

I'd say a) they're too purple :p and b ), that one is set in RHD mode, the other LHD.

Not a great photo, but notice how the light is stepped up? (Just the passengers side on here)

My money is on both sides being set wrong - you'd need to flick the level/switch thing inside the headlights to make them point the other way. That's what I would try anyway

Edit, actually, your passenger one might be alright, could just be the drivers one.

Are you able to get a photo against a wall, rather than a road?

Edit 2 - a bit of a better photo here, although the cut off is really soft for some reason:

That's exactly what other road users have to put up with when non-approved equipment is fitted.

They should be outlawed, you don't realise how b****y annoying it is to have to drive against and be approached from behind by blinding non-approved, ill adjusted OTT headlamps.

Put them back to standard like the Police are enforcing around this area.

To be fair, if they're in projectors then they should be fine (assuming a decent lens).

Mine in my BMW are fitted after production, but they're arguably a better projector unit than the ones VW fitted to my Polo as OEM anyway.

That's them in fog (and the photos above) - there's no scatter or anything.

And I'm not defending the HID crew as I abhor HIDs in reflectors, but this whole 'it wasn't fitted as standard' stuff doesn't mean it's automatically bad at all. Big brake kits or suspension can be just as bad if fitted wrong (arguably more so), but people don't jump on the 'I just fitted some dirt cheap JOMs' owners with the same malice that HID owners get.

If it's the headlights Im thinking of from said ebay seller, they are approved equipment, so yeah...

To me does look like they ( well drivers side mainly) isn't set right, but I'm no expert.

For once someone on here gets all the correct gear to fit HIDs so they don't glare other road users, and he gets some prat who hasn't a clue what he is looking at or talking about! FML.

Moving on, get your local MOT station to level them up. Shouldn't cost more than a few quid.

Truly awful, but the problem is not with the HIDs. With that beam setting even glow worms would dazzle oncoming drivers.

As I've written before, I have HIDs with no problems and really useful living in an area with winding roads. No problems, MOT OK and never flashed, however, one of the great advantages of HIDs is that you can get a more relaxed drive with a colour temperature nearer to daylight. 10K is not going to help the driving experience; it will just shout,"Look at me" to the local bobbies.

So I don't have a clue !

And they don't glare other road users !

I stand by what I previously stated.

Approved by who?

Irrespective of anything else 10k is a very poor choice.

As said, get them aligned properly, and get some 4300k bulbs in there, they will look factory and you will not get pulled.

10k is just silly.

The higher the temp of the bulbs the less usable light you have, as 10k is the top of most scales I've seen id say that's the reason you can't see too much.

Just get them aligned somewhere and you should be grand regarding that.

I don't think that's an allig-ment issue (although get them done once sorted, of course), the beam pattern itself is wrong, and no amount of alligment will fix that.

The beam pattern should be ---\____ ----\____, whereas it's ----\____/---- which is wrong, and indicative of the lights being set the wrong way.

If its nicer white light your after with a little better visibility you can buy just bulbs for £5 on ebay that dont cause all this non projected problems, make sure to get the 55w bulbs and not the 100w as they will burn out faster

go straight into OEM headlight units

I think it looks like that because the right projector is so far out.

Possible I guess. Really need to see a shot of the whole spread of light against a wall to be sure.

silly question, the bulbs are seated in the light unit correctly?

did I notice that you swapped the headlight units as well? if so definitely need to get them lined up

should have put car against wall and marked beam pattern before you swapped the units, then lined the new units up against the same marks and you would not have been far out until you could get to a garage to get them properly lined up
