blackvue under

Featured Replies

Can anyone recommend a blackvue camera for under £150? I notice a few models but the memory differs greatly. Few questions about it also...

Is the memory upgradable as I have a few cards lying around?

What is the best way to wire it in so it comes on when car start and goes off when car does? Is this even possible? Does the 12v Cable allow for this?

I drive a lot of country roads and if something should happen I want proof at how it was caused.

Suggestions very welcome thanks in advance

Blackvue is a make, so you have a choice of 2 or 3 models only, none costing less than £150 that I am aware of - do you mean dash cams in general??

Most use a microSD for memory storage, class 6 or above according to my cheapo, but I found a class 4 works just as well.

Nearly all of the dash cams, from the cheapest £18 jobs to the £400 posh models switch on and off from the cigar lighter socket by default; although ideally you want to wire it in directly to the car electrics to make it look neater (one of my summer projects).

Certain Blackvue's can only take upto X amount of storage, for example, i have the 300G which can only take up to 8GB but i also have it on a loop which means once its full it will ovewrite the first normal recording.

The best way to wire it in is to thread the wire through the piller down the side of your dash and piggy back into the fuse box. Theres a topic on this somewhere ill try find it.

Heres the link

Thanks guys. It's a blackvue infancy as unlike their design. I've not considered any other brand but I'm open to recommendations.

It seems quite easy to piggy back it i may do this. How much footage does 8GB hold. I'm not after anything fancy just something neat gives decent image quality and is relatively cheap. I have £100 amazon voucher which I won so looking to get rid of it so i could put in more cash if needed.

The only hard bit about hiding the wires is taking the A pillar off to put the wire behind, everything else is a piece of cake, it takes about 20 minutes to do.

I think it varies on how long you set your camera to record, it has 2, 5 and 10 minute times. I would imagine it also determines on how often you drive, my footage lasts a while as i only do around 10 miles a day, but like i stated in the last post, it loops over and overwrites the first recording it did unless it was classed as a event, then it would save to the sd but wouldnt get removed.

Ah that's good. I do a fair bit of driving my work is 15miles away plus I do a fair bit of driving over the weekend around the Cairngorms and lochs etc. quite like a brisk walk up a hill lol

Although there is that new sponsor Briskoda has, i had a sneak peak this morning and the footage of the camera they supply isnt actually that bad and its only £99.99 with a 16GB card.

Hmmm not too sure unlike the design of that. Footage looks not bad at all but seems quite a bulky thing to be plonked on windscreen.

Ill have a look on their site for alternatives. Thanks

Yeh i have to agree with you on that one, the blackvue sits perfectly behind the mirror so sitting from the drivers seat you cant actually see it.

Having my cheapo highly visible NOTICEABLY improves the driving of the boy racers who spot it.

Something to note is if you hard-wire them in some insurers class this as a modification, I'd enquire before doing this.

True, though not all seem to know what one is :) I've never had a price hike due to one, though, so no issues with declaring.

I have a Blackvue in one car and that style in another. The Blackvue certainly is nicer as you can't see it at all when driving and I will likely swap the other one for one too for that reason alone.

Wherever you put it, make sure its mounted in a legal position not obstructing your view of the swept areas of your wipers.

Blackvue do a new base model for £130 launched in the last couple of weeks.

Chris

Blackvue are buying them in from China then, I noticed these for sale on Ali Express over a year ago; and for a LOT less than £130.

Looks like they're not even advertising them as their own, but as a Baros A8. On their site if you shop, Baros and Blackvue are separate categories.

Opted for the DR380 155 on amazon and used my voucher I won so cost me £55.

Thanks for the input

Unless they are having their own version specially made, the specs are incorrect; ALL of the same cams for sale on AE show a 1.3 Megapixel CCD and the "Baros A8" ad is claiming 2 Megapixel, despite every other detail, including resolution, being identical.

BTW, If you want one and are brave enough, they cost about £35-£40 +P&P (& VAT/import duty perhaps).

Well as mentioned above it purcahsed a BlackVue DR380G-8GB, now i also would like this wired into the car via the fuse box and not the 12v as i use that to charge my phone

What do i need to purchase to allow me to have th blackvie wired in correctly? is it this Power magic device at £40+ or is there a cheaper way of doing it?

sorry for all the questions, im a total duche when it comes to electrics and cars combined.

If you look at the blackvue thread tha boss fox did ou can see how others wired their in
