Such a silly price

Brought a new fabia vrs tsi and looked at insurance for it on confused.com elephant quoted me 1500 and considering I'm 18, male, and have no 'no clams' to my own name I thought this is a cracking deal, Adrian flux was recommended by confused as they said it would be cheaper, there quote was £13000 and the person on the phone didn't seem that it was that high! I've had quotes for less than £1000 by August when I'll be driving two years, very disappointed as it did come highly recommend by the person on the phone

TBH you are a young inexperienced driver with no NCB history driving a very quick car. Insurance is going to be expensive.

I think that £1500 is a great deal, go with that.

AF obviously think the risk is too high and their premium reflects that.

I have 1 year 8 months named drive clams free driving so 1 year no claims with LV, they said this would help bring it down, I'm waiting for my 7 days free insurance I got with the car to run out then sorning it till I'm 19 to see this help price I have use of another car so no rush needed but your right is a great deal I'll most likely take

£1500 not bad , black box it if you want cheaper

i was thinking about black box but i dont really want anyone tracking me and seeing what im doing all the time as i would like a few blasts sometimes

I'm really dubious over the black box ones as I've looked at a few and hey are not very specific over what you need to do for discount. It seems like its open house for them to say "Oh no you went fast on a 50mph road so we are not going to give you any discount". No real definition of 'safe driving' they all talk about for discounts.

Hi,

I'm sorry we were unable to help out this year. Unfortunately it's not possible to be competitive on every single quotation I'm afraid. I wish we were! £1500 does sound extremely competitive though!

Regards,

Dan.

Elephant do seem to be doing very well at the minute, they was the cheapest quote off compare the market which i did in march and obviously took it out. Ive told a few others people to go with Elephant and have deemed to be the cheaper insurer. Insurance companies that offer £10000 or whatever compared to the £1500 are basicly saying f*** off we dont want you.

Son is running black box £1900 first year and will drop too £500 after 12 months

When I spoke to the man from

Elephant he said they own compare the market so they aim to beat any quote that goes through this website they are doing very well at the moment, also insurance in genral for young drivers is silly, I love this new fabia I've got I'm

Not going to drive it stupid incase I do write it off, I drive sensible most of the time and do enjoy a blast like everyone else, I clean and polish it every week, but some young drivers are stupid and take risks that end badly that put all other young drivers at risk, young people don't have insurance because its so expensive, and in tail

It put everyone else's insurance up it's a nasty circle

Not being funny, but surely if you can afford to buy a new Vrs at 18, £1500 for insurance isn't too far out of reach?

cant honestly see the point in sorning' it till 19, if you want a good idea of the insuance cost at 19, just drop your year of birth by a year on compare the market etc and see what difference it makes to the quotes, not a lot at all I expect. I doubt if claims experience shows a very significant difference between age 18 and 19, but I might be wrong.

I used to think I was a brilliant driver when i was younger (old git now), and looking back my driving was much more 'gung ho!' and at times probably reckless to be completely honest. I was very lucky as I didn't have any accidents during this period, but I had a few buttock clenching moments, which could have easily resulted in a terrible outcome. Anyway, the fact is most younger drivers (not all and I'm not saying you) go through this phase and the insurers can't determine who will and who won't...... until they're paying out!

I am a much better driver now than when I was younger, through experience and also paying for professional tuition (2 full days with ex-police driving instructors). By better, I don't mean driving like a Grandad on Sunday afternoon, I still drive with pace, but appropriate to the weather, road and traffic conditions. If I could change one thing about my driving experience, it would simply be that I wish I'd paid for the ex-police roadcraft days earlier, you'll be able to driver faster when appropriate, but in a more controlled manner all of the time - you'll also find that you read traffic much better, make smoother progress, rarely stop completely at a roundabout (unless the traffic is really heavy) etc..... best money I ever spent.

Having said all that, you bought your car to enjoy it, so don't SORN it, drive it ;)

We looked to put our son on our insurance when he passed his test. He was 18 too. The cheapest quote we got was £3500 fully comp. The car was a 12 year old 1.2 Clio. Needless to say we didn't put him on and reverted to M&D's taxis. Considering the car you've got and your age and gender what you've been quoted is so low it would make me wonder if they've got all your details correct. If they have that seems a.very good deal TBH. Based on what we got quoted for my son 13000 is not surprising- we also had a quote on our 57plate 1.9pd altea and the lowest we were quoted was 6500 for that.

How come you.didn't get a quote before you bought the vRS?

IMO at 18 to own a vRS I am not surprised at the quotes you have been getting

Personally think its way too powerful a car for a beginner (feel like an old fart saying that). But then I started with a 1l micra and only at 21 went to a Saco vtr (which is still slower than the vRS)

There is a reason the quotes are high. Young people in powerful cars are so much more likely to crash also now cars being owned by younger people are typically worth more due to the finance deals

Bargain price take it! When I was your age in your shoes a £290 1.1 fiesta LX cost me for the first year near 3K and that was by far the cheapest!

i was thinking about black box but i dont really want anyone tracking me and seeing what im doing all the time as i would like a few blasts sometimes

Not wanting to sound argumentative, but that is exactly the reason that a "blackbox" can reduce your premium - by preventing someone from going for a "blast" on a public road. There are times & places for that sort of thing, and a new driver in a relatively powerful car on a public road is arguably never going to be in the right time or place for that blast.

If I wait till I'm 19 in 6 weeks I can save sound £500 I have another car and I could really do with £500 spare ATM after just buying the fabia, also are you telling me that you don't have a blast every so often? If you don't why buy a vrs? Should have got a 1.2 tsi, this isn't the most powerful car I've driven so I'm use to the power not saying I'm an amazing driver but just because I've not Been drive 20/30 years doesn't mean Im unsafe or should enjoy the car ivr brought

  • Author

I've worked really hard to get this car as I've had my heart set on it, I'm an apprentice engineer and also have two other jobs just so I could have the car I wanted

  • Author

I did get the quote when I brought the car, but confused said this insurance company are a specialist in skoda vrs and insure young drivers cheaply even when the car has been modified( mine hasn't)

£1500 is a bargain - fully comp presumably?

I also would doubt being 19 would make a significant impact to the cost. I haven't really noticed it go down based on age, but experience.

When I was 17 I paid £1600 for 3rd party on a 16 year old car...

£1500 is a great price IF you can actually convert that quote into a policy.

19 I can save £500 Ish, and yeah I was very pleased with it, and when I spoke to elephant they sad as long as the data that I put in the search engine was real that's the price I pay

I'm upset with my renewal from Flux this year, more than doubled from last year upto £1800, I'm nearly 25, I appreciate I had a crash last year but I just think that is a joke, I was thinking it be around the £1200 mark

Yep, Flux couldn't even match the renewal quote given by Admiral. Flux wanted well in excess of £2600, reason given was postcode and the fact I was unemployed at the time (Admiral wanted ~£1500 (including extra for paying monthly))

  • 4 weeks later...

In Flux's defence, I had a great deal on my Fabia a while back. All mods declared for less than £450 - 30yrs old / 6yrs NCD. I didn't get a single quote off another company that was less than that WITHOUT the mods listed!! So some what of a bargain!

However, I suspect that next year I'll have to shop around again. As when I've used them in the past the renewal quote always leaves somewhat to be desired....

i was thinking about black box but i dont really want anyone tracking me and seeing what im doing all the time as i would like a few blasts sometimes

Which is precisely why insurance for young inexperienced drivers is expensive
