I love his house that he and the good lady renovated over the years, and the older Jaguar he drives.

A man of the people, 'All in this together'....

Tarzan as he was known in his Political Heyday (due to the episode of his Marching down the Commons central aisle, swinging the Mace around his Head), had a very checkered career & like Blair & Major, have to keep interfering long past their sell by date.

Regarding his house, have you been a guest there?

Personally, I haven't been introduced, so I still have that enjoyable experience to look forward to.

Never had the pleasure, i think i read the article in some Sunday Paper Lifestyle Magazine while waiting at the dentists on how the titled couple have renovated the house and gardens and added value to the crumbling hovel.

This is where i get my 'Lifestyle motoring' news as well, visiting Doctors, Dentists, Solicitors etcs waiting rooms. Not necessarily with an appointment....

Well, you can certainly become well informed on Teeth cosmetic treatments & Diabetes Clinics by reading the Wall posters in these establishments if you gain nothing else.

Personally, I'd steer clear of Solicitors, they may thrust the dreaded 'No Win, No Fee' forms in front of you to sign.

The stop start system - normally does not use the starter motor to restart the engine (in the first minute or so after stopping) - it uses the mass of the flywheel which is spinning and reengages the clutch to start the crank / engine

There effectively is 2 clutches (for ease of explanation) - one between crank and flywheel and one between the flywheel and gearbox.

As long as the flywheel is spinning on its bearings the inertia is used to restart the car.

When its stopped - then the clutch reengages and the starter motor is used.

In early cars the bearings wore more than normal - as when oil pump stopped - lubrication stopped.

In later designs they changed the white metal bearings and added a polymer coating to them to reduce the wear when the oil pump was not running during the restart.

Do you have an online reference to your explanation? I can't find anything to support it.

Flywheel systems were used in F1 KERS systems (as were battery and super capacitor systems) but it would be a very complex system just for restarting an engine.

My research suggests that Audi use the Bosch developed high use starter motor and standard AGM battery like most German manufacturers.

Mazda have a different approach with their I-loop system where the best placed piston (just after tdc) has a small injection of fuel ignited to turn the engine over, with only a small assist from the starter motor (supposed starts in 0.35 seconds). While it sounds good I have heard of complaints from Mazda owners of short battery life and expensive replacements.

The fact is that modern fuel injected engines, particularly direct injected, require far less turning over to start. I'm sure everyone remembers the extended RRRRrrrRRRRrrrRRRRrr type noise from the starter motor as it took the engine awhile to catch properly with carby and early injection systems.

The basic Octavia 1.4tsi manual sold in Australia that I bought three years ago does not have stop/start and just a keyed ignition but I am perfectly happy to turn the engine off when I stop at traffic light/train crossings where I know there are long cycles and restart manually when I can move. Quick flick of the key and direct injected engine catches immediately. I'm sure this is the case for the Citigo too.

Hi - Actually no.

I work for a large Automotive Company an one of the parts we produce is the bearings.

The system I mention was the technical description given to us about the Stop Start Technology that was being used probably 6 to 8 years ago when we started work on the Polymer Bearing Coating to aid with the extra wear which came as a result of the Start Stop.

I dare say if I searched through thousands of emails and presentations I could find it - but not inclined to do that.

Don't go through years of e-mails, life is far too short :)

Just annoyed that a few Google searches only came up with some patents but they did not quite match your description although it seems from reading them that stop/start technology and DMF's can be problematic?

I still get the impression that if Audi did implement it then applications were limited, maybe for their larger engines but I'd be surprised if the Citigo had anything remotely as complicated.
