Direct Line Proof of No Claims

Featured Replies

Hi,

Has anyone else ever had any difficulties in getting a proof of no claims bonus letter from Direct Line??

I cancelled my automatic renewal in April and asked for a letter, which i was told would be with me in 7 working days. It's now gone past that and, despite telling Adrian Flux that i had requested proof and didn't want them thinking i'd forgotten, i'm worried if it drags out much longer, they'll put my premium up.

I'm going to ring Direct Line again but is there anything i can do to get them to send it out quicker??

Cheers,

John

phone up and nag is all i can say, i had do the same when i left.

2 phone calls later my proof of NCB turned up

Surely it comes with the renewal letter? Your renewal quote should show how many years no claims they put on it. Do they not give you access to your documents online that you can print off?

I tried looking on the renewal letter but all it said was 'Thank you for insuring your car for the last 5 years with us' even though i've been with them for 10 years and have 9 years no claims as confirmed by them on the phone.

I've never had PDF files off Direct Line.

When you get the renewal letter the second psge which breaks down what your new costs will be for the year lists the amount of No claims years . Had mine a few weeks ago and they had put it up £150 , phoned and no chnace of a reduction , so i did the compare.com and ended up changing to SAGA and paying less than i was the previous year . Direct line always go up never down me thinks .

My last renewal with them didn't specify ncb, just that it was 5+ years.

I thought all insurers could check this on the mid anyway making proof letters redundant?

Hi John

Speak to your new insurance company and ask them to contact your new one and they can verify the NCD

That is what I have done with my new insurer

I may do that then RadioTwo.

I would have thought all insurance details were held on a centralised computer system but Adrian Flux have asked me to provide proof of no claims.

I found Direct Line started charging more, over £1000 for a 32 year old with 9 years no claims discount.

Seems Direct Line are playing hardball on premiums just now. I have had my house with them for 5 years. every year the renewal price was substantially higher, every year a phone call has got them to drop it back to the previous level, or at least close. Not this year, they would not even entertain a negotiation. Bye Bye DL and moved to SAGA who were well below last years DL price, necer mind this years (an was careful it was like for like)

Heard this from a lot of people, but in October they were the same price as last on home insurance and only £30 more for the car with the next best quote an extra £50 on the car so renewing was a no brainer.

Dreading this year's renewal though

Hi again John

As you say all details should be held, so don't know why they ask you for the proof, but when I changed the new company said they would check but

as the old insurance was still running they could not check, but when it had lapsed it was not a problem.

They have to provide you with your proof of NCD when you cancel your policy. I'd write to them via recorded delivery or email demanding it (politely) within 14 days. Admiral didn't provide mine on cancellation, but did subsequently send proof when I asked for it. It probably won't affect your current insurance as far as being insured is concerned, but you'll be on a sticky wicket if you have to make a claim and can't prove your NCD, so keep at them!

Complain to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

Complain to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

You can only do that after you have written a complaint to the offending party and given them a chance to respond. 28 working days iirc. Been other done that
