MAD Helper Springs

Featured Replies

I have decided to fit MAD Helper Springs to my 2012 FL Octavia Estate, after clearing it with my insurance company. None of the posts that I have read on here mentions renewing the bolt that holds the suspension strut to the bottom wishbone. As this is a stretch bolt (90 Nm + 90 degrees) it would appear to be one use only. Can anybody let me know the part numbers (Skoda and VW) of the nut and bolt and whether they are available online?

Thanks

Richard

Sorry, I paid my dealer £80 to fit mine...lazy bu66er that I am. ;)

Thanks Rab but I would rather do it myself.

As I cannot edit my original post I actually mean the 'Bottom suspension arm to wheel-bearing housing bolt' not the 'suspension strut to the bottom wishbone bolt'.

I fitted the MAD helper springs yeasterday and it was relatively easy. Car now sits slightly higher but as I have a full sized steel spare wheel and jack in boot it is probalbly is not much higher than a car without. It also may settle slightly.

The part numbers for the lower suspension arm to hub carrier bolts are SN10610702 (£1.70) and the nuts are SN10106402 (£0.97).

I have measured the lengths of both the old and new bolts and there is no significant difference.

Yes and Yes

Thanks. I will speak to my insurer (LV) and ask if there will be any increase in premium if I fit them.

On the topic of helper spring's i've just had these arrive :)

They are the Eibach cargo kit for the octavia, used in the police cars to increase the weight they can put in the boot. They are designed to simply replace the oem springs and keep the oem ride height. I'll try to remember to get some before and after shots :)

Be interested to hear how much firmer the ride is with the Eibachs fitted. The MAD springs only come into effect under load so the ride essentially remains unchanged when the boot isn't full/towball isn't in use.

As for insurance, Skoda Insurance were happy with the MAD springs, provided that they were fitted by the dealer, and didn't increase my premium. However, Skoda UK/Dealer did state their being fitted would invalidate any warranty claim on the rear springs/suspension, but hey-ho.
