not sure of his fuel choice Murray....

Featured Replies

Hi Guys!

Just joined up having got my Skoda Octavia vRS 3 weeks ago. Absolutely love the car and can't believe why more company car drivers don't opt for it. Everybody here loves it and is envious of the standard equipment and performance..

Couple of things, if it has the same engine as the TT and Cupra (180bhp/173nm) then why are the emissions so much lower on the Skud? - not complaining like as it puts me down into the 20% car tax band!! ... is it just a HUGE cat?

What fuel do you guys recommend? the manual says that more power will be available when using 97/98 RON as opposed to the normal full-fat 95 RON...

I have found in previous cars that using Optimax gave smoother pickup and better economy and more kick

any thoughts guys? I haven't really noticed any difference, although granted the engine is still tight ~2000 miles...

it's just a sod that being a company car I can't change anything so the Jabbasport ECU swap is out of the question... ho hum just have to let those BMW 330i's past me I guess...

Welcome Russ

I have always used 95 ron in mine. Engine will loosen up nicely as you go. I have 28k miles on mine and its great, get nearly 37mpg average on drive to/from work.

Hi Russ,

welcome aboard!

I regularly use Shell Optimax (>98RON) and find it gives a better response and more mpg than either 97RON (supoer-unleaded) and 95RON (unleaded). :thumb: 8)

It is more expensive (4p/litre against unleaded where I live) but I've found a garage near where I work priced the same as super-unleaded and I would say the results are worth the little extra.

You might not see the full benefits until after about the 4th tanks worth.

I'm averaging around 32mpg at the moment but I'm still "exploring" my RS' capabilities.

Enjoy!

Cheers.

Adrian.

Cheers for the reply guys

didn't realise that optimax was 98 RON !

- I thought it just had magic dust in it that made my car quicker

get it down yer......

Russ

optimax all the time, at least a couple of tanks and then you really should notice the difference.

the extra few quid per tank it costs is not a bother to me. well worth it, imo.

Some genuine mpg figures from you guys would be handy. I've had to gloss over alot of the extra costs involved in getting the vRS compared with running a Golf 1.4 16v. Man who signs the cheques...'I know it's got a huge boot, you've told me about that at least 20 times, but what about insurance and fuel economy?'. Me...'Did I tell you it's got a huge boot?'.

Mostly I stop/start around town and can expect 300 miles from

OK, in 67,000 miles with the RS I get the following:

Overall average = 32

Motorway trips = 37

Round town = 30

UK trackday = 10-11

Ring = 8 :mrgreen:

Mention that servicing is cheaper than the Golf, depreciation is better than the Golf, oh, and its got a big boot

But I've heard the sump hangs a bit low. Mmm...pro's and con's...
