Is yours a bit stinky?

Featured Replies

Hello fellow briskies,

Just a quick question is your citigo a little stinky with petrol. My often smells a bit of petrol when I park up, either after a short or long journey.

Are they all like this or do I have an issue. Fuel consumption seems ok and cannot see any leaks.

Any ideas?

Not had this on our Citigo?

Not here either after 6 months. There must be petrol on the loose somewhere I guess. Best to get it checked out

Thought as much, I'll book it in for a check over.

Thanks chaps.

Now you mention this I have noticed it on more than one occasion. Noticeably when reversing off my drive when first starting from cold. This has not happened for around 3-4 months now, infact completely forgot about it until I saw your post. Never had it checked either, but as said it's not a problem now.

I guess the Citigo doesn't do the 'air-recirculation when reversing' thing like other Skodas do so I would think that is normal.

That sounds like, or is it smells like, a loose fuel filler cap ??

Mine is secure, OP's???

Mine's secured, not noticed whilst driving only after parking up, definitely after reverse parking. This is not from inside the vehicle but once I've got out. Fairly strong but in the morning or after an hour the smell has gone.

Mine still smells fairly "new" - unless i trump.

Ok so thinking outside the box the only change I've made is to put on a different oil cap to "tart up" the big lump in front. I'm fairly sure there was the odd whiff before this but to put my mind at rest does anyone think is might be causing the issue.

Smell seems to be getting worse as I could smell it on the entire journey home. It's booked it but jot until the end on the month. I've "sniffed" about and there is no smell from under the engine but towards the rear there is. Fuel cap is on and cannot see any leaks on the tank.

My old MX-5 always smelt of petrol. It held tank pressure fine, so I assume the hoses (including the filler hose) were just slightly porous with age.

Have you had a look at the actual tank under the rear seats

On an old car fair enough, I've had my share of whiffy old motors, but I've not had a new petrol like it.

Daydotz, no I've not, I'll lift the seat up tomorrow and have a "sniff"
