New member, new Yeti? - help!

Featured Replies

Hi there

I'm a new user and hopefully going to very soon be the new owner of a brand new Yeti (1.2 TSI Elegance DSG). Test driving one this weekend in Hertfordshire where I live.

I had a few questions:

1. What sort of discount might I be able to negotiate off the list price? www.drivethedeal.com don't seem to have any Yeti deals at the moment so I don't really know where to start.

2. The spec on the Elegance is obviously excellent, but are there any additional options you would recommend or can't live with out? My wife will be doing most of the day-to-day driving and we have two young children, if that helps.

3. As far as I could see there aren't any dealer offers for the Yeti at the moment - 0% finance or no VAT, for example. What do you think my chances are of getting such a deal (or something similar) for the Yeti? I will be part-exchanging a 4 year old Honda Jazz that has low mileage, full dealer service history and is in good condition.

Thanks in advance for any insight!

Hello Risret, and welcome. I'm sure someone with up-to-date info will be along soon. In the meanwhile, how about giving us an indication in your profile of your location? - it sometimes helps with local knowledge.

Id aim for 11% discount and personally the only option i couldnt live without on mine is the BIG sunroof (kids love it! :) I rate the 12 speaker setup and Columbus highly also. :) Good luck with it.

I see you live in Hertfordshire. I've purchased two Yeti's from Progress Skoda and found them to be fair about PX and discount. Test the water and pop in they had, as of a week ago, 6 Yeti's 2nd hand on the forecourt so I'm sure you'd be able to try something similar to your spec? Dave or Tim would most likely be there to chat you through the options etc.

The Elegance is very well specced to begin with.

The only extra I've had on both my Yetis is the spare wheel ,though I had Annapurna alloys on the first because I liked the look.

My next will definitely have the panoramic roof . :sun:

I would happily recommend Prospect Skoda at Letchworth. Very hard to estimate discount where a trade in is involved as the real figure is a combination of trade in value and price of new car. I am very happy with the net effect of the deal on my immminent L&K!!

Definitely get the Columbus (with DAB), that's my big recommendation to anyone getting a Skoda.

Hello and welcome.

I would look at adding the heated front screen and spare wheel to the spec. Check the impact of the spare wheel on boot space as with 2 young kids, space will be at a premium.

Thanks all - very helpful.

My nearest dealership is Hughes in Aylesbury. Does anyone have any experience of them?

I dont im afraid but I'll echo the thoughts on Progress in Letchworth - by far the best dealer ive dealt with. :) If you are open to using them then speak to David in Sales and say Lee with the Yeti recommended you to speak with him. He should manage a decent discount on the new vehicle for you. ;)

Sorry ristret no experience other than Progress at Letchworth. I did, however, talk to the people at Skoda MK, very nice folks but quoted a cost to change over £2k worse than the deal I did at Letchworth.

Owning a Yeti with only a spare wheel as an option(something I wouldn't be without) If I went for another Yeti I would get heated screen and park assist and probably tow bar prep(never needed one, but would have been good to get it done from the factory)

I always demand a new car has Mats and bootliner and will never pay extra for this! Why would you not have them!

Hiya, and good to see you joining in.

Couple of thoughts, mainly financial.

Generally speaking any options you spec at purchase count for nothing when it comes to trade in time in the future, so it's usually best to stick to the base Elegance package. However, as one has said, the 12 speaker system was a 'must' for him, and others commented upon the roof light - which might help at trade in (a bit). Other options have to be driven by your cashflow and your own needs/desires.

Also - it is NOT the "discount" you get, NOR is it the P/X valuation you're offered, but the "COST TO CHANGE" that is the critical factor.

The car may have list price of £20k, and you're 'given' ten percent off, making £18 k after a 2k sweetener......... Then your Jazz which could be valued at say £10k (hypothetical) only gets a bid of £8k, wiping out that nice discount!!

Try we buy any car dot com for a nominal value on your Jazz, and use that figure to base your sums on.

At crunch time, all that matters is that YOU are happy with the deal, and if you feel (as some on here do) that you're being shafted, then be prepared to walk away and go see another dealer. That is your ultimate lever to a decent deal. Just remember that the dealer is running a business employing staff who have families and he must make a profit in selling to you, and in taking your Jazz off you.

Good luck with your cogitations and deliberations... ... ... but in the end, just do it because you will never regret it!

There are several "bucket shops" offering "super deals" on Yeti's online; whether they can actually source one at the price they suggest is another matter, as they can only get one from a main dealer themselves. But when you go to a dealer take a list of "bucket shop" offer prices with you as a bargaining counter...it worked for me!

Also, be aware that there is a very high demand for Yetis, and they are only building them to order (hence the shortage of special offers). So be prepared to wait around 10 weeks for delivery. Also, be aware that a facelifted version of the Yeti is due in the autumn...no-one is letting on what it will look like yet, but you might want to hang on for the new model.

Flaps.

Mud flaps that is :giggle: worth trying to get them thrown in as well as they reduce the amount of muck on the car sides.

Sunroof for me was the best option on the my car. You may want to consider the 'spooky' park assist as its not that much more to add than adding front sensors. Both of these options were already fitted to my car.

It may be worth considering ordering without the spare wheel option and adding it later (wheel, jack, new boot floor etc You do loose some boot depth with the spare) it will cost a bit more but it will give you the option of taking it out and refitting the original floor if you need the extra space.

If you choose a different model to the Elegance an item that I would add would be the xenon head lights.

Or, if you really love the current shape and are worried the facelift might be very different order a current one soon :-)

Thanks all - very helpful.

Yes - all OK (so far!) . Rushed at the mo - will come back later.

Interestingly, DriveTheDeal aren't offering any Skodas at present.

Orange wheels are, but they're only offering 10% off, so if you can get better than that from a dealer, you'll be doing well.

As for options, I'd suggest mud flaps, heated screen, fold flat passenger seat, tyre pressure monitoring and depending how important boot space is, a spare wheel. Other than that the Elegance spec is pretty good.

Spare wheel is essential in my view. I picked up a showroom cancelled order Elegance so couldn't add anything else. If I could I would definitely have gone for electric seats for the memory function as I'm 5'10" and my wife is 4'11". Heated front screen would be good too. Absolutely agree with Freshacre on discounts etc.

Also worth checking out Autoebid. Currently savings of £2,375 on your model (incl Met paint) which reflects level expected above. That includes broker's fee of £438 so might be more available if haggling with dealer. Used them twice without problems including current Superb. Also used DTD and they were equally good though, as noted, no Skoda option at the moment. Might use either of them again if the facelift ever materialises:)

...My nearest dealership is Hughes in Aylesbury....

To come back to this: I've now posted a belated review of this dealership in the appropriate section of the forum - I'd not done so before mainly because my experience of them is 99% about the purchase and nothing about servicing. That said, I'd happily approach them again for anything Skoda. All the staff I've dealt with were friendly. The cost-to-change on Annie was fair, but you would no doubt look for comparisons with other dealers (it's surprising how far some of the guys/gals here go for their Yetis, despite nearer dealers). No harm in contacting Gary or Terry at Hughes, anyway.

With a budget to work to, we started with the mechanical spec that we needed, then went for SE trim and added the options that were (are) essential for us - full towing kit, off-road button, lumbar support in the front seats and the spare wheel. The 16" wheels were a factory no-cost variation. After 4K miles and eight months, we're still happy with what we have and what we don't have.

Good luck in your Yeti hunt :hi: !

3 extras worth getting are.............

1. Panaramic sunroof (it's AWESOME) :sun:

2. Park assist, it's a GREAT conversation piece as well as being EXTREMELY useful for parallel parking.

3. Rough road package. Useful for off-loading, and offers extra protection against mud, small stones, salt for venerable parts underneath the car. :D

Best things I added

a) Panoramic sunroof

B) DSG Gearbox

Both are exceptional and once you have them can't live without

and © Don't forget the bling rings etc

3. Rough road package. Useful for off-loading, and offers extra protection against mud, small stones, salt for venerable parts underneath the car. :D

Useful for off-roading = quite believable.

Useful for off-loading / resale = not so sure. ;)

Useful for extra protection against salt = ... Surely the off road kit, being panels that cover pieces of the underside, are more likely to be salt traps?

I can see this being useful for farm use but otherwise it might be a liability.

Just to say thanks to everyone who replied. We are testing a 1.2 DSG later today and will post any feedback. Incidentally, the car configurator on the website seems to have been revamped (haven't been able to access it for a few weeks) - looks impressive!
