Custom axle stands

Featured Replies

Alright geezers, I've been mulling a concept over in my mind today whilst idly thinking about using axle stands under a felly, there are occasions when you need to work on stuff when the weight of car is resting on the suspension such as adjusting the brake bias valve and a few others. What i was thinking is getting a fitting laser cut that has the same bolt pattern as the road wheel/brake disc with a centre bore that locates over the wheel spigot (57.1mm) so that it can be bolted to the wheel hub, then it sort of tapers out into a wide base, could even put some decent heavy duty castors on the bottom so that the steering could still be operated and the car could be moved about the workshop with ease

it's quite dangerous to have a car supported on 4 normal universal axle stands because of the danger of it sliding off, but these things are actively attached to the car so cannot slip..

I do use wheel dollies and/or axle dollies but the axle dollies get in the way when you are working underneath, I realise if you are working from a 2 post ramp it's not an issue but I was thinking more about DIY folks...

Is there any interest in this, I could possibly get a batch made if there is enough demand.

Word out, Tom.

why not just use old knackered steel rims with 2 bits of box welded to em in a V, I have seen it done somewhere but cannot remember where now lol.

important to remember that the bottom will move outwards as the weight is applied to the suspension too.

luckily for me I hardly ever need to do work without either a 2 or 4 post lift.

Something like this?

Another clever design. Easy to attach a supplementary steel plate for wheel studs jack up.
