Turning Alarm Chirp Off

Featured Replies

When I lock/unlock the car the alarm makes an annoying chirp or two chirps. Is there a way of turning it off, I work shifts and don't like making noise coming and going at odd hours in the night. I did think construction and use regs had banned Largs making a noise to confirm setting/unsettling?

IF you have maxidot it can be done in there, ATA I think its called.

If you don't have Maxidot, it can be disabled with VCDS.

Cheers guys. It transpires that Maxidot isn't standard on DSG cars as I haven't got it! I'll have a look at VCDS or retrofitting Maxidot as an alternative.

I've just had mine turned on. Due to a sensor fault, I'd probably been running without an alarm for months.

The chirp is a satisfying reminder that it's on and working OK.

Actually no it doesn't chirp if the siren isn't working.

Just had the siren replaced on my 2011 vRS by the dealer under warranty as it had died, no chirps on arm / dis-arm and the led pattern changed.

Having had it replaced my chirps are now slightly louder.

If you want it quiet - have it switched off by a local member with VCDS or go and see a dealer who should also be able to switch them off. But I would give you a warning - accustom yourself to the correct LED flash pattern for a fully working alarm, some insurance policies will specify that contents aren't covered if the alarm isn't active by choice or by fault. So personally I like the confirmation that the alarm has fully set by the chirps.

I thought all DSG cars had maxidot, to allow the gear select display???

Mike

That was true pre facelift but post facelift the standard display has a gear change indicator on manual cars and current gear selected for DSG. Have to pay extra for maxidot!

I switched mine off on the old car but i put it back on again - if one of the kiddies doesn't shut the door fully you known instantly when it doesn't chirp. Without the chirp you'd never know unless you checked each door before you leave the car.

Clearly "Largs" should be alarms and for reasons best known to Apple, my ipad decided Largs was a more likely option than alarms?! How do I edit a post, there doesn't seem to be an option?

"Edit"

I can edit this post with the edit button between "Report" and "Multiquote" below but not on my original post, is there a time limit to edit?
