The inevitable time has come where I have to change the dual mass flywheel, clutch and concentric slave cylinder. I think eBay will be the cheapest place, any other places anyone can recommend please?

Euro Car parts and use the Brisk25 discount code for 25% off, I would personally go for a single mass conversion as there is a lot less chance of that failing again compared to the dual mass.

I did look into that but apparently it's hit & miss with the idle noise on a SMF.

i recently fitted the Valeo solid flywheel kit, it doesn't really chatter on idle. More when I'm slowing down in gear around 1000-1800rpm.

I got my concentric slave cylinder off carpartsforless. Ordered the cheaper Sachs but got sent the LUK which is more expensive so I didn't complain.

Single mass flywheels are ****e unless your chasing high end power. Anything under 200bhp, in my opinion is perfectly fine with a dmf.

I'm not chasing any high figures and staying OEM, it's not exactly slow with a good remap either!

Agree with hutchy, no need for a SMF sub 200bhp.

These were the cheapest when I thought the clutch had gone on my BMW. About £150 for a clutch vs £270 (pre discount) from ECP.

Failing that, Car parts 4 less are a cheaper sister site of ECP.

getting it all out and stripped is easy, putting gearbox back was a bitch, that box is :bandit: heavy

drop the subframe to get more room, and possible do the console bushes at same time as they are virtually out when you do the box anyway

That's what I was afraid of, what is it actually making the noise though. Surely can't be the flywheel hitting on the bell housing?

Shouldnt be making any noise when driving. Slow speed and idle it'll rattle a bit but shouldnt do at other times. I love mine, when your running 200+bhp its great, revs raise rapidly feels great! Unless your going that far though, nice dmf will keep it quiet and smooth.

its only on tickover and slow speeds and when accelerating fairly hard to overtake but not thrashing it.

Love the feel of it don't get me wrong but OMG the noise is a PITA.

its something to do with the forks or something in the gearbox, according to CG motorsport who supplied the kit the transition always makes that noise just the DMF acts as a harmonic dampener.

god knows but I know Ill be swapping it for another kit in the future.

ps it makes that sound soon as you hit the bite point on the clutch in gear or not. worse when in neutral

Mine only really does it in slow speeds, not so much on idle. but I do miss the smoothness of a dmf. If I could go back again I'd defo get a dmf just not worth the labour charges again.

midlands vw told me they wear the gearbox bearings out over a period of time so doesn't sound too good.

My trusted mech said the dmf was made to actually protect the gearbox. It acts as a torque damper.

Really should of listened to them and not the clutch specialists.

Every now and then someone says that, but the amount of people running them I suspect there would be 'boxes going left right and centre. Yet to be shown much in the way of proof. I have a few mates running them, lots of miles done with them, no issues. It's down to what you want from the car, using it as a daily driver in traffic everyday then stick with the DMF and dont go mental with the power. Otherwise, DMF, wack the power and torque up and enjoy the ride lol.

That's why you run a sprung clutch with an smf to try and save your transmission

One is actually an LUK unit, they are both manufactured by the same company I believe.
