Just a few questions about the Superb...

Currently I own a 2010 Fabia vRS. Since Skoda phoned me up and asking if they could buy it off me, I immediatly said no. But after having a proper think about it, If they could get me a car (Superb-as this was my next choice of car any how) in the colour and spec i want then I might consider it.

I'm looking at the 1.4 in particlar, obviously I know it won't have as much power as my current 1.4, however if anyone does have a 1.4, what's it like to live with for everyday driving, on dual carrigeways/motorways when you put your foot down is there a little 'kick back'?

Does it come in Auto's if so am I right in saying that it's DSG box still?

What is a 'good spec' to be looking at?

Am I mad even thinking about this? (Rhetorical Question).

But i would be very interested if you get around to talking to that salesperson that called you with the worst sales try on ever.

See how much he offers you on the Trade in of your vRS that will be out of Manufacturers Warranty later on this year.

Dealers and Traders all over the UK are struggling to shift 3 year old vRS and they are 'asking' around £9000 for them.

They can be bought for around £8,000.

Worth going to Road Test a Superb and see if you like, and how much they are going to offer for your car.

Ask the Dealership if the will 'Buy it off you', as a straight purchase, since they are so interested.

I don't think the 1.4 comes with auto but the 1.8 does. In reality the engine is only going to determine how quickly you get to a cetain speed. If you are doing 70, then you are doing 70, no matter what engine is under the bonnet.

Any model will be big, quiet and comfortable, even serene. Mine has definately changed my style of driving. I am more than happy to plod around with all the airs and graces of a king. Not what can be said about my other car!

I think the 1.4 is way underpowered for the Superb since its a pretty big car

Our 1.4 has more than enough power considering it's size and weight. Have no complaints pulling away sharply or slow on acceleration I think the 1.4 only came in a manual.

Yeah briefly looking at the specs, the 1.4 did only come in manual which is a shame. Can't remember if it was the 1.6 or 1.8 which was the lowest engine that came in Auto.

My 1.4 manual twin door is great. Very quiet engine. Very smooth. Plenty of power for car and at 70 happy to accelerate. Typically 45mpg.

Im very surprised that people think the 1.4 is powerful enough as fully loaded my 170CR isnt

Depends what you want and how you drive I guess.

My 140 is OK, it'll win no grand prixs but then again it's not what the Superb is about is it? As long as it gets to nice cruising speed then my CC takes over.

Over 10 seconds to 60 simply isnt pokey enough for the roads near me lots of DC's with short "on" ramps

Well for some people I guess it will be, but as you will be coming from a 1.4 vRS I would guess not… the Superb is a big heavy car and if you want to make progress with as little effort as possible then it is just not going to cut it IMO.

Sure the 1.4 will be quick enough due to lowered gearing, I would just put some black tape over the rev counter and let it get on with its job!!

In my opinion more cubes equals less stress equals better long term reliability.

What you are used to driving will have the biggest influence on whether a 1.4 tsi will suit you. I have come from a 2.0 hdi and am really enjoying driving a petrol again. In fact someone got in my car on Friday and thought it was electric!

But I would challenge the view that 0-62 in 10.5 is not sufficient for joining a dual carriageway.

All I can recommend is try one out before Buying. It persuaded me.

I have a 1.8 DSG and it is fab! Plenty of power if you want to 'play' and smooth and effortless on the motorways. Great compromise petrol engine if you don't do a lot of motorway miles (in which case diesels probably better).

I have a 2.0 TDI with DSG, lovely car to drive and can driven fast or smooth and gentle, it is just as happy to both. Plenty of power when needed and is quiet and refined, gear changes are so smooth that they cannot be felt unless you use the kick down function when you can sometimes feel a jolt, otherwise smooth as silk.

Dual Carriageways eh...fraid we don't have any of those around here.

I think it might be ok if you drive on your own , our car is the main family car so has to put up with the fully laden trip to France at which point its performance is not that impressive
