Free photo editor wanted

Featured Replies

Is there such a thing as a free photo editing program that can import images from a scanner ....all the ones I have found so far don't......tried paint but that is next to useless

TIA

What OS you using, Rob?

Try this

http://www.savethest...-photoshop.html

Adobe are letting people download CS2 suite for free at the minute and that includes photoshop

there is however, a disclaimer.

Adobe has disabled the activation server for CS2 products, including Acrobat 7, because of a technical issue. These products were released more than seven years ago, do not run on many modern operating systems, and are no longer supported.

Adobe strongly advises against running unsupported and outdated software. The serial numbers provided as a part of the download may only be used by customers who legitimately purchased CS2 or Acrobat 7 and need to maintain their current use of these products.

Have you tried GIMPshop

Using windows 8....

I'll give that gimpshop a go and see what happens...got a load of WW1 photos and info to scan and copy for someone

Win 8 should recognise your scanner, then you can use the in built Windows software *I think

Scratch that, I forgot you want to edit, not just import :D

GIMP is almost as powerful as Photoshop and is free. Only works on Windows (AFAIK).

But as said above, if the scanner is installed on your computer you have enough already to scan them and save them. If you want to edit them, you should find something on the instal disc (most manufacturers supply a basic editor of some sort).

GIMP Is multiplatform, works fine on my mac or my migration towards a linux desktop. Editing/photo mgmt it the last finger hold apple has over me.

There are some formats it can't work with, so definitely try it, test it, enjoy it. Before committing to hours scanning the wrong format :)

Thanks for the update. When I last looked at GIMP (around 5 years ago) it was windows only.

Glad to see they have branched out.

Actually GIMP was originally written for *nix systems back in the mid 90's and ported to other systems after that.

It has been, until recently, the only half way decent editor on Linux - a bit a of a steep learning curve, but very powerful. I've not tried GIMPshop, as I think that always lags the standard program by a little. Having never used Photoshop it's not like I need to have a similar interface in the GIMP.

As an aside, there is a good set of video tutorials on the GIMP over at http://blog.meetthegimp.org/ - though it's now running at over 150 episodes of 15-30 minutes each!

I've tried GIMP a few times. Always found it to be woefully lacking.

I think if you wanted to start your working in photo editing than you must start it from Adobe Photoshop because it is the best photo editing software for beginners.

I might have to splash out on Photoshop elements....it seems to be the only one that works.........all the others can't scan in anything as " another program is using the scanner" but photoshop manages just fine......it was worth a try anyway...thanks for the suggestions everyone

Photoshop Elements is a very competent editor and well worth the money.

If I was starting again, I would buy this as opposed to the full Photoshop version.

try software for students, they offer big discounts on a massive range of software (you must have children? A niece or a nephew) just bend the truth a little.

If not do what nearly everybody else does and just get photoshop or light room. Quite easy to get it gratis.

"Bending the truth a little" is just as much a breach of the licensing as downloading and using an illegal copy. Whilst you're unlikely to get prosecuted in either circumstance their is absolutely no point in paying out money if you're still going to use the program illegally.
