Repair or reject ?

Featured Replies

Well I have a dilemma. 9 weeks after order, my new ( 2nd) Yeti has turned up at the dealers.

I am due to collect on Friday morning. I was asked to call in to sign documents for the dealer to purchase tax.

During the visit I noticed my car outside in it protective wrapping. I immediately noticed a white mark on the lower painted bumper, about 6 inches long, which turned out to be a scratch about 1mm deep.

I pointed this out to the dealer who suggested the option was to have it resprayed. I pointed out that I wasn't ruling out the car being rejected. He confirmed that was an option.

So what shall I do ? Give them the opportunity to repair, but with no assumption that I will accept the results or reject completely, and order another ? If it's the former, do I collect the car and take it back when convenient, or refuse to collect until they have attempted the work ?

Accidents do happen in transit. I used to work at CAT UK, the Renault importers, and scratches, whilst rare, did happen. They had their own bodyshop to deal with such problems though before or after PDI. I'd give the dealer the chance to rectify the problem before considering rejection.

+1 , Rectify.

I agree with leepatrick's comment, my son is involved in body repairs and carries out many pre delivery touch ups that most owners never realised happen. Today's paint matching and finishing is superb and I would bet if you had not noticed the damage the dealer would have got it repaired and you would not of known otherwise. It's your choice, I would wait to see how they repair it and if you are not happy reject it before taking delivery

Give them a chance to rectify the scratch. If the scratch is on a plastic part there is no compromise as to future corrosion and so if you cannot detect the repair all is well.

Minor marks do happen-with parking in public sooner rather than later I'm afraid.

My first yeti was ready for us to collect and on arrival I noticed a knock on the middle of the drivers door. Some one had parked next to it and caught the door. I had the same options and chose to repair. I was an excellent job, I got my car a few days latter.

Why not just ask them to replace the bumper?

They have to repair the car to sell it. Let them do the repair and then decide.

Many cars have had this and get repaired BEFORE the owner sees and they are for the duration of ownership totally unaware of this. So let them repair it and live with it. Get a service voucher out of them or something. The scratch is not going to change the nature of the car one bit.

Get it fixed.

It's not a fault as such, it's a scratch.

I think you'd be surprised how many cars get damaged in transit.

My last Fabia had the tops of the roof rails scraped from the transporter.

I've never heard of being given the option to reject the car over a scratch that can be easily repaired.

It's a pain but I agree with the others get them to do it plus a freebie. I picked up my current car 2 years ago and within 2 days someone had marked it in a carpark, sadly nothing is new forever.
