Maxidot retrofit

Featured Replies

Spoke to Shark today and they no longer offer the service to fit a maxidot instrument cluster. Is my only option now to see if I can get the stealers to do it?

I'd be interested, I can source a maxidot cluster from the Czech Republic, but the speedo is in km/h can the face on the speedo be swapped with my current mph one?

Eddie - if I sourced a cluster (assume I'd need one from the same model as my car, pre-FL vRS petrol) roughly how much are we talking to get it fitted and working? PM me if you want...

I'd be interested to know the price as well and how long it takes to do.

you can swop them, not sure how much it will be out look at the position at the 12'o clock position and compare with yours once you have done the conversion from km to miles

If it's Skodateile you are buying from, they supply both kmh and mph units. You just need to specify which one you want.

The maxidot on my estate was retrofitted by a main dealer as Shark was no longer doing them, and it was before Eddie was working his magic too. I bought the unit from Skodateile in mph form, took 4 days to arrive from the Czech Republic.

The faces are seemingly easy to change -- the maxidot that Shark put into my hatch was originally a VRS cluster, but I asked him to swap the dial faces from my original Elegance cluster as I'm not a fan of the VRS style (especially in a car that isn't a VRS)

Mike

thanks for the info Mike, yes it was Skodateile I was looking at, was looking to get MFSW (controler, wiring lobe to) and bluetooth module at the same time.

If your order is over £250 (which it will be) you can make a payment / transfer via the Post Office website without incurring any fees that the banks typically charge.

Could save up to £25 or so...

Having emailed Ales at Skodateile, he can't get them in MPH anymore. Spoke to the dealers today, and they wanted £842 inc VAT for the maxidot instrument cluster, so the search continues.

If I found a second hand one can that be fitted successfully?

Or keep the dials from the old one and ask Eddie to swap them over. Out of interest Eddie is that possible and how much do you charge for the retrofit?

As the speedo is graduated differently between the two 0-270 km/h (0-167 mph) and 0-160 mph for the current one, you can't swap directly. What I don't know is if the speedo can simply be coded for various speedo faces and changed between km/h and mph.

Hi

Yes I can do 2nd hand

Just make sure that you bear this in mind

Cars with the newer style key, can't use clusters which had the older key

my ebay listing for a golf cluster will show you which key

Newer clusters can be fitted to the early type key

Give Skospares a try. They are breaking quite a few MK2,s at the moment.

I've got the new type of key.

Do you know if instrument clustered can be coded to change from km/h to mph? i.e. swap the speedo face over and code it so it indicates the correct speed on the mph face?

Mike can I ask when shark swapped the face on your cluster did they correct it to show the correct reading as the vrs speedo has increments to the standard face. The vrs one is every 10 mph until 80mph then it is every 20mph whereas I think the standard one is just 10mph increments.

with mike's they were both in mph, it was the design / style that was different

The old versions Km to Mph was not possible to swap as it would read incorrectly

The newer ones seam to be a closer match, no way to change it other than flashing the chip inside with the correct file

Am I right in saying that FL clusters can't be fitted to the Pre-FL cars? i.e. the key issue is only on the FL swaps?

My Elegance is 10's until 80mph, then 20's onwards. The vRS's maybe special, but not *that* special ;) ;)

Update:

I managed to get hold of a maxidot cluster from skodateile, it is the standard diesel one not VRS version, but I think it looks cleaner and I like it. Thanks to Ed for working his magic, fitting and coding it along with the MFSW.

Hi ,

I am planning to buy a maxidot in km/h from Skodateile for my Elegance diesel but he is out of them for my car. He instead suggested http://skodateile.cz/index.php?pg=product∏=395&menu=%C5%A0koda%7COctavia%20II%28A5%29%20facelift%7CPanely%20p%C5%99%C3%ADstroj%C5%AF

It is a RS Diesel instrument cluster (0-270 km/h) as opposed to 0-240 km/h cluster I need.

Will the increment in total notches have an effect in correct speed being displayed?

I see OP had different increments in his cluster but the top speed stayed that same i.e 160mph

VRS cluster will work fine

Hi Eddie,

I received my RS maxidot today. Going to get the swap done at the dealers soon. Is there any VCDS coding to do after they are done?

I just got a new BCM and had to re code all my settings again. Will I have to do that again for them to show up on the maxidot?

  • 1 month later...

So I'm looking into maxidot now.

I have found a maxidot dash pod:

The only thing I'm not sure about is that it's from a facelift car but the same engine (1.9 BXE). Would this work with my car?

And Eddie-NL are you in Great Yarmouth?

Phil
