is my car remapped

Featured Replies

Is there anyway I can tell if my car is remapped? only recently bought it and not sure as I've never drove any other vrs' it's got a pd160 intake on it already and been lowered so I would have thought if some one went through the trouble of doing that theybwould have mapped it aswell?

Cheers

find a garage near you selling a similar vrs .... go test drive it

Take it to a rolling road day.

That'll let you know.

If it runs outta puff at 4k then its stock, if not and it pulls hard to the red line its mapped. Also the standard map has a god awful torque spike at 2,000rpm.

Mine pulls to the red line and has smooth power but I logged it last week and it's standard. Get vcds and log boost and fuel, best way to check

Vagcom; log requested boost (or actual boost) someone will correct me.

Log group 11. Stock is 1.35bar.

Log Group 1. At 4Krpm stock is 47mg.

How does it drive? pulls hard right up to redline? Or runs out of puff

a bit at around 3500rpm?

Sounds like it isn't then. Might go test drive another one and see how they compare. any one in Swindon?

get your car to 30 the put in in 5th and put your foot to the floor if the clutch starts to slip when it boosts i would say its bin mapped cause it carnt handle the extra power. thats what i was told so i got mine mapped and changed was amzaing.

If the clutch is on its way out anyway surely that won't prove anything.

I always suspected my old vRS was mapped but could never prove it. Passengers who had regularly been in Golf TDI's, mapped and standard said it was quicker. I know it's a lighter car but even now where there are stretches of road where I know what the top speed I could get to in past cars my last vRS isn't far off the new one.

Tbh the difference for me was night and day. If it will break traction in second in the dry id say its mapped. Thats what my car started doing after the map.

A golf isn't any heavier really.

IIRC from previous threads, a MkIV Golf 1.9TDi is actually lighter than a Fabia.

.... The only definitive way is to go and see a mapper, like Shark, who have copies of all the OEM files, and can read your map out for comparison to your "Stock" file, by ECU number... This is how Ben confirmed my car wasn't mapped!..

How much does he charge for this?

I'm not sure... He did it as part of a wider diagnostics on my car after a turbo repair..
