Your Honest Opinions Please

I'm contemplating getting a private reg plate for my new octavia, but I'm undecided which way to go. Do I go for something personal using my initials. Or do I go for something to do with the car? eg reg plate finishing with OCT or SKO. I know in the end I have to make the decision but your opinions would be useful. Many thanks, Stu

If you are going for a private plate, try and get one that reads say A10 RCE, or whatever you're initials are. That way if you need to sell the car but want to keep the plate, it more or less doesn't matter what car you put it onto.

Initials are my personal pref - even the M5 BMW plate will not have a car to go on some time in the future. Unless your initials are ZZZ, I suspect there'll always be someone who wants that plate.

If you haven't already, have a look at www.dvla-som.co.uk. Their prices include everything where as others may exclude vat & transfer fee

I have my initials (MKD) in mine I've had it since I was 21.............. so I've had it for 6 years this year

go for what ever suits you but remember it's age bound i.e if it starts with a M then it can only go on a car that is a M reg or newier.

Your car will come with a personalised reg plate, no one else will have it. If you want to make it even more special, change your name by deed poll to it. It's cheaper and has the same effect :D

Wasn't there a lass who changed her name to Subaru Impreza because she love the car that much?

I think I'd just keep to the private plate, I dont think SWSBO would like me being called Mr Skoda Fabia or Mr Fabia VRS or just for you roo Mr Rollerskate Fabia

well I'll have to change it soon to Mr Roo Skoda Octavia 2.0l Elegance :P

but I was thinking more along the lines of Mr EF03 XBA Wilis (or whatever the number plate will be and my real surnname)

Roo, go for it, be a trend setter I'm sure it will take off!! :P

Ive been looking into this and ive decided that in the long run its better to go for a plate relating to your name then you can keep it forever. The only problem i have is that to make up my surname i need an 05 plate and i dont have an 05 car i have a 53 :(

Buy the plate on retention - then you'll just have to buy a new car within the year!! :D

Imagine my dad....'My name is 645i...BMW 645i...'

if you want to keep the plate i would go for one with ur initials or name as you might not always own a skoda or octy.

i went for my 1st name K2* ENY

I would...if i had 2k for the plate

You must have good initials!

honest opinions wanted ??

hmmm ......... dont bother with any personalised plates - find something better to spend the cash on

IMHO they fall into three catagories

subtle - only means anything to those that fork out the money - no-one else knows what your name is so why should they twig / care that its your initials

pretentious - explains it self really

downright illegal - all forms of altering to make the plates look like something else is illegal - why spend good money giving plod a reason to pull you?

My mum and dad want to buy me A21 TWE for my birthday... I think it will be nice, especially as the car will be over 6 months old by then

My son has just turned 17 and already bought his private reg. still got to buy his car though but his new reg is his birthday and nickname ...i.e M88 ROO born in March 1988 name is andrew or we have always called him Roo . All this for
