Coopers Fiaam - Anyone used them?

Featured Replies

Never used them, but have seen an oil filter comparison with a number of filters being opened and compared and these came out at the cheap end. An oem filter from Toyota did best on test.

Cheers. I'm looking at getting my car serviced in June by a mobile mechanic and he said he'll use these as he usually uses Mann but he says they aren't the best.

I'm thinking i might just get some bits myself and just get him to fit mine rather than using his cheap bits.

Use Mann or OEM IMHO.

Cheers. I think i'll tell him to use Mann if i can't get the bits myself. It's the fact he says he uses "OEM parts 99% of the time but in my case the OEM manufacturer for VW is Mann, which aren't the best, so will probably use Cooper Fiaam instead". Makes me start to question his logic really.

Mann Filter are excellent IMHO, in fact I'd say the ones I've had are better than *some* of the OEM ones.

The OEM seem to be a mix of MANN, Perflux (Made in France) and one batch (No idea who made them for VAG) were made in china which did seem to be much cheaper than the other two.

The ones I've had have been purchased in full pack of 10 or 12 and from main dealers, so were genuine parts.

I'm currently using a mix of OEM and Mann Filter and the quality seems similar.

GSF sell Mann Filters.

If your guy is saying the Mann are rubbish, I'd personally start questioning what else he may be economising on.

Cheers Cheezemonkhai, i'll check that out.

Should be ok as coopers have been around for years.

If in doubt supply your own.

I fitted a Bosch oil filter to the Lupo yesterday, cost a massive £4 odd at ECP.

I am not sure who makes what for this market BUT I do know we supply product to a company called Sogefi in South Wales, these guys print the info on the outside of filters for different manufacturers, one of these is Volvo own brand filters, so from this is think there are only a few manufacturers and they all rebrand to suit the end use. A bit like engine oils, the same but different.

I've just serviced sons arosa , and had coopers oil filter on it place we bought it fitted last November, my m8 who's a skoda mechanic said remove and replace with Bosch or oem which I did , hengst Bosch or oem nothing else

Considering some of the mileages that some on here seem prepared to let their cars go between services (variable) buy the best filters you can get. :bandit:

Just get all the service kit from skoda, should come to under £30 for oil, filter and sump plug

I always have a service every 12 months and don't really do more than 10,000 miles a year, i've just always had my car serviced by Skoda, so i know they're using (or should be) OEM parts. It's a new world for me having it serviced by someone else and i've never really looked too much into the various different brands that are available, so just after some guidance/advice really.

Thanks for the replies guys.
