Car tax renewal due

Featured Replies

Nice to have! I got a renewal of £72 for six months on my Polo. Went online and it was a cheery £77 because in the three weeks between reminder and end of month prices had been revised :@

I can't believe that if you drive the right car you can cover 50,000 mile p/a and not pay a penny in 'road' tax. Explains why the bloomin things are crumbling under our wheels.

That's because it's not road tax, it's Vehicle Excise Duty ;)

Not quite true for the motorways of course but A roads etc are (allegedly) maintained and funded by the local councils. Hence why there are so many pot holes, they've had their funding severely cut back yet are still expected to maintain the same levels of service. Given that they contract out road surface repairs to private operators anyway, that'll be one of the first things that they stop paying for as there'll be no Union opposition to cutting back on it.

Perhaps the reason I hyphonated the word road. After all that was the point of the tax in the first place and only political wills have changed the sentiment but left in place the tax. In any case this constant pointing and laughing at people who call it road tax is a little puzzling given that a certain percentage of the duty is spent on the roads.

The whole system is a shambles (whoda thunk it?) Folk can get a small engined Passat,,travel 40,000 miles a year and pay nothing where as someone travelling 2,000 miles a year in a 20 year old Polo pays £140. Even if its not a case of the money being spent on the roads they've caused more wear on, that free tax graded motor has put far more CO2 into the atmosphere.

Chuck it all on fuel or replace the tax on fuel/ duty with a pay per mile set up. Use the roads more, pay more.

£105 for mine, but it could be less soon ( nil punds) ,as I'm hoping to get a blueie as I'm having walking problems ,and I'm not prepared to enter c dif/ecolie central whose death rate and fall rate are almost as high as in Stafford . I'm all for sticking it on tax, but then how do disabled with exemptions get their excemptions.
