2001 Fabia 1.4 for

Featured Replies

Seen locally, going to look tomorrow evening....

Already know it needs headlights - I have a pair in the shed.... coming up for MOT, but has tax to end of August!

Worth a punt? :D

As long as it needs nothing major for MOT then definitely!

Been told brake disc/pad on one side. Will take VCDS with me to see what it can tell me too.

Bit concerned about the headlights as it suggests a possible front end impact, maybe Cat C or D

Yes, worth an HPI check just in case.

Well, I was pleasantly surprised to find the car was a 16v Elegance "Mustang Slayer" 130k miles, nice metallic blue colour, wheels seems good, and the headlights thing was because they are just cloudy and need a good polish. Have bought it and collecting at the weekend! :D

Cue another little project.... ABS light is on so hoping that is just a sensor, and remote key needs a battery.

Wow.....an Elegance too. Nice find.

You always wonder if such cars will turn out to be real sheds, but that one looks nice. You could make a few quid with that car.

Did you manage to knock the price down too?

  • Author

Nah, the owner wanted £350, and the car looked worth it. Just needs a few man-hours spending on it.

Gutted I forgot to take down VCDS for the ABS light, but I shall cross that bridge.

Leather seats? Swap for some vrs ones? :D

  • Author

Nope - its got those yellow seats which are in need of a good vax'ing first!

Ah they looked like the creamy leathers you can get at a glance. Nice little buy though, colour and condition of the paint looks good on the pic.

Damage on wheel arch in pic is as bad as it gets right round the car.

Just been back and got the remote central locking working again, and cleared the ABS light. Fault was along the lines of "ABS return flow pump." From what I can tell this is usually a £2.50 fuse under the battery cover.....

A bit rude that he played hard ball with the price as it was £350 ono!

Not that it matters......it seems like a very good car for the money anyway.

Yeah, and I am happier now I have already cured two faults before even collecting it.

I bet........it looks like it'll polish up real nice!

Wasn't the Mustang slayer a 2.0 8v? Looks like fate's saying you're not ready for that much power yet ;)

Oh yes, of course, how could I forget that?! :D Well, in my hands the 1.4 16v will slay mustangs all day long!

Bargain, I'll give you £450, lol.

Sorry, I want to see how well this will come up, especially the crappy headlight lens' Good practice for my de-clouding skills.

Discs front and rear or just drums at rear?

Enlarged photo says discs.

  • Author

Will be discs all round. Only classic came with rear drums. :) Even comfort trim had the stock 232mm rear disc setup.

Not true I'm afraid. My wife's comfort has drums as does my daughter's ambiente.

  • Author

Weird. I've had two comforts with disc brakes (including the mongrel which is a comfort TDI ultimately), but they were turbo diesels. Perhaps it is more to do with engine choice, so all the 1.4 MPI / 1.9 SDI get rear drums?

Just had a sudden thought that this car is the perfect donor for a 1.8T quattro project, but that will have to wait for another day.....
