Changing Battery

Featured Replies

My car would not start this morning. When I turn the key its just clicking and all my dash lights are flickering.

I know its 99% going to be the battery, it is the original one on a 2006 car!!! I have ordered a new battery but I have also read that you need to do a throttle body alignment with VCDS after changing one.

Is this true as I do not have access to the software and even then would not know how to go about it.

The car is a 2006 Octavia VRS.

thanks for your help

So when i changed by battery a year ago i should of carried out a throttle body alignment??!!! Seems a bit excessive???

I must admit I've disconnected my battery a few times and never knew about having to do the above. But I've never experienced any rough running etc afterwards.

Last time I changed a battery on my Subaru, I put the new one across the terminals with a couple of crock clips before disconnecting the old one to avoid any annoying problems such as this.

It could be your alternator that has malfunctioned and has not been charging your battery.

Yes your car will run better with it, like night and day, especially if it is mapped, if your mot center is a good one they can do it for £25 it is not a case of rough running, just the car feels flat in its power delivery like a torn DV

Thanks every one, I have just changed the battery today and the car is back up and running again. I will see if my local MOT centre can help with the TBA.

For info the day before the car would not start the radio turned off and refused to turn back on. I forgot to check the fuses before I put the new battery on. After I had done so the radio started working again?

I only got 5 years out of my battery. Not much use I cycle everywhere , so the alarm causes a drain . It was awesome gti that alerted me to the tba. I had a new diverted valve fitted and thought it had torn again or my map had gone after a battery change .I went to Mot centered hey presto cooking on gas again
