Hi there everyone, since having the superb since January and a happy 15000 miles clocked up all has been going well, until this morning when i went out started it and it makes a whistling noise when starting whether the engine be hot or cold, sounds like the Turbo to me personally, never made this noise before on startup and it only makes it at start up, if you rev it doesn't make the noise or even under load it seems fine?? take a look at the video below and see what you think i'm stumped, and the car feels completely normal nothing like a turbo hose has came off or anything

IDK, I can't hear anything I haven't heard with TDi Superbs.

Doesn't sound unusual to me either

ok, its just the little squirrel noise it makes (sounds like the turbo) never noticed it before though, when it gets its service next month and ask them to verify its all okay anyways

Actually it sounds a bit like a siren, at starting sounds louder in the flesh than on camera

My Saab 9-3 used to make a noise which sounded like a distant police siren at low revs when cold. Did it for 30000 miles until I sold it to buy the Superb.

It stopped doing it for a while today, but then started again earlier on, i am convinced the turbo is faulty or a hose has came off somewhere

and when the engine is cold that little siren noise gets even louder , when it gets its service next month i will tell the mechanic to look at it and rectify the problem as this hasn't done it before

Just out of interest does the noise go if you turn the climate ON with auto for 30sec and then off?

havn't got climate its a S spec

And all day today the noise went away, even when cold all the to hot, weird

The air con comp on my Merc R Class made the whistling noise occasionally. Never sure whether it was the drive belt config or the comp clutch.

car started making noise again tonight, defo something wrong

Does the noise stay when the manual air con is OFF and ON?

Mine did this last year and the noise went each time i put the air con ON for a short time

well was waiting for a hire today with another driver, he has a 61 plate 1.6 tdi CR octavia, i asked him to start it and listen too it, he did and it made the noise too, but quite subtle, and then seen another driver later in the day he has a 60 plate 1.6 tdi CR passat and he started his and it was a wee bit louder, he noticed it starting around the 10,000 mile mark and took it into a VW dealer and the mechanic said it is the turbo wearing in properly and nothing to be worried about he has had a few TDI'S in asking about the noise but is is normal, now i can relax again
