Fabia 'sweet paper' dash rattle

Featured Replies

After months if lots of people complaining, skoda have issued a technical bulletin to dealers acknowledging the fault and providing a fix.

Mine was in for a service so they waited overnight for the parts aaaaaaaannnd......

... It's fixed - no more horrible noise

Did you ask what they changed? replaced? etc?

Hmm, no. Picked up with kids in tow so was a little fraud.

He did have a print out of the bulletin though, which had a parts listing including dash pod brackets and some new parts. I might have it listed on the invoice.

It's a free job if the car is in warranty though

What does this dash rattle sound like?

  • Author

Its like celephane sweet wrappers being continuously scrunched behind the dash

I've got that! Its so annoying but I find dealers are more trouble then its worth when it comes to silly things like this!

Not had that - did have a sound like someone playing a tambourine with the AC on, but that was (apparently) low gas on the AC; might have been filled a little low (to LHD quantities maybe) or a damaged seal when the engine was changed in Belgium. Gas topped up by the dealer as part of the SUK checkover a week or so ago, but if it starts doing it again, they'll strip the system and replace the seals.

I think I've got that as well, it only comes from the front left end though (driver's side in EU version!) and the funny thing is it's only apparent during the first few kilometers that I do when I leave my house (probably 8 speed curbs in less than 1 km.....). After that it's either settling down by itself (yeah, I know doesn't sound convincing) or my ears choose to cancel it out! No idea, but as it stops soon every time I hadn't asked the dealers to do anything about it.

Fraught :whew:

It would be great if one of you could record the rattle and post it here :) .

Mine did it since day 1! Always been on and off though. Some days it's awful, other days it doesn't really make much of an appearance. Just worried it will be one of those days when I take it to a dealer to be looked at. I find pressing around on the plastic covering the dials can shut it up for a while.

My mums 2010 had it and it was fixed at last service , mine also does it from time to time , I think the Skoda "fix" is a series of plastic wedges to push things in place and stop the movement , hardly technical

This is Technical

Thankfully mine seems to do this quite rarely but when it does it seems to be on hotter days when the sun has been shining onto the dash.

hi all,

mine had it as well and dealer was ordering new part of dash surround and i pressed very hard around the bottom of the dash and something clicked in place on the dash,4 months now and nothing and dealer said if it comes back to come and see them, also within first week dealer changed glove box (opener ?) as this was squeaking.

great car and 5 year warranty i have.thanks :sun: :sun: :sun:

Mine does this on warm days...it's very annoying.

Could you provide details of the bulletin...my car is going in for it's 2year service on Friday so would like to get it sorted

Just ask the Dealer,

if there is a Technical Bulletin they should have it, if they do not, ask them nicely to get it from Skoda.

Its what they do as a job.

george

Mine rattles where the lower vent is under the steering wheel. Been fixed once and my dash vents will creak from time to time.

  • 5 months later...

Anyone know or have a copy of this bulletin. My dealer reckons there is no bulletin for the fabia 2 for a dash rattle.

I would like to know this too as mine has started to do this over the last few days - very loud and annoying! It is 2500 miles away from its first service so would be good to get it sorted out.

I just love it when it rains as I have virtually no rattles then.

Except the squeeking sound of shock absorbers when running over speed bumps or my garage's ramp!! I think it's a kind of arthritis!!!

I went under mine with some silicone lube spray and have no more squeaks now.
