god sake Wayne, you've not had it long, if you do sell someone will be getting a nice car

I know.

I rather someone who loves her, lavish her and love her driving to have her...

Than myself who loves her, lavish her, but the driving dosent really do it for me sadly :-(

But it was a compromise, and we all compromise.

I thought i could live with a diesel by compromising for financial sense.

We will see ...

Wayne, purely for financial reasons, I'd keep hold of it. As mentioned in a few posts, selling so soon after you bought the car is basically financial suicide. If you don't NEED to sell, don't. Yes,

I know.

well with your annual milage of 8000 or so a year maybe you would be better off with a Petrol car, but still Audrey is the exact car you where looking for and why sell her so soon? give it a good think and don't do anything you will later regret

have it remapped makes the world of differance and skoda wont know even if they plug it in had mine done at 20.000 miles better fuel consumption and pulls like a train now done 100,000 never a problem and never voided warrenty

I've found her for you mate. A petrol heads dream car.....

http://www.tuktuktransport.com/the-ventoura/

All you ever wanted LOL

Lol Ade

I suppose it does have the creamish interior.

U think road noise will be as intrusive?

Nah, it'll be drowned out by the noise from the engine......

After the amount of posts on this forum you want to get rid so soon?!

Seriously tho, best of luck with your decisions, but with regard to price, your Superb just got much cheaper in the past few weeks with the announcement of the "new" one - I would have thought that the 9k someone suggested was realistic, afterall, there's a dealer on here selling new 170 DSG Hatch's with 0% finance, free servicing for £19.. and unfortunately again, all of us on the forum know it's been dinked and repaired - maybe think about deleting the post about the accident...?!

Cheers AL

Thanks very much for your thoughtful comment.

But, as mentioned earlier in the post - i am just too honest :-(

Obviously i would not broadcast the fact its been in an accident when advertising outside this forum.

But again, when asked if car been in an accident, i would always say it has been.

Its just the fact i wouldnt like to be the other person if i was enquiring myself!

There is no harm in advertising for £12k.

As I am not determine to rid of Audrey (what a horrible thought!)

But if she goes, i want her to go for a good price.

If she dosent, then it would mad for me to sell her at a loss,

for a car which has nothing wrong with her,

value for money,

Only that i prefer a petrol version (rather than a diesel version).

Again, thanks for thoughts.

Realistically, and i don't want to upset you, but rather manage your expectaions.....you will never get £12k for it in a million years. Audrey has done 80,000 miles and is 3 years old? The average milage for your car is circa 40,000 miles.

The dealer you bought it off probably added £1500 to £2000 (maybe more) to the price they paid (at auction) to sell the car to you, so take that off the price you paid then depreciate it some more for the extra mileage you have added then you may be getting close.

Added to your problems is the fact the facelift model is out soon which effectively wipes 10-15% off used car prices (and new car prices for the outgoing model)so take that off also.

Dealers on Autotrader are selling Superbs a year older but less mileage of Audrey for around £9000 and they expect to be haggled down by 5-10%....so expect to realise about £8700 i would say.

If you try you trade her in for a petrol car the dealer will only offer you the expected price from auction (cos of the mileage)so expect a trade in offer of £7.5 to £8k.

Luckily for you the Sale Of Goods Act doesn't really apply to selling cars on the private market, so if you can offload her for a good price without declaring the accident to the new owner they have no come back because the car is 'sold as seen'. The legal jargon is 'caveat emptor' if you want to look it up. It is therefore incumbent on the new owner to ask the right questions. I would advise you tell the truth if asked "has the car been in an accident", because if you say no.....and it is proven later that you lied to get more money you will have a case to answer at the small claims court. It is not, however, incumbent on you to declare the accident unless specifically asked, and even then you could choose not to. (I think this is right.....may be a lawyer type on here who will put me right if not.) Of course it is up to you whether 'bump' is declared or not and i am not suggesting you would purposely mislead anyone. This of course is one of the reasons why private sales are generally cheaper than trade sales, warranty and overheads outstanding. You essentially have no legal obligation once the car is sold due to the caveat emptor principle.

So where does all this leave you i hear you ask?

If i were you i would put it up for £9500 and snatch the arm off anyone who offers more than £9k.

Others on here will no doubt have more to add to this and they may even argue with my deductions but i think they are about right....i welcome any other members comments....more importantly, put me back in my box if i am way off.

And no...i am not a car dealer....i bloody detest car dealers for amny of the financial reasons stated above.

£12K does sound a little high, even for an Elegance CR170 DSG.

I'm picking up my 2011 2.0TDi CR140 SE with 13,000 miles up tomorrow for £12,995 from a Skoda main dealer.

Jinxgj is right, I’m afraid, Wayne. I gave £6,800 for mine at auction, couple of months younger than Audrey, identical spec, 1 owner, but 120k company-car miles and a busted Columbus. Even with a (trade) buyer’s premium, replacement headunit and the necessary cambelt change I was up and running for under £8,000. (I do think I got a good deal, though.)

That said, I noticed when I was looking to buy a Superb that even the traders didn’t seem to agree on their worth, with big price fluctuations for apparently similar cars. Even today there are a couple of very similar (manual) Audrey types on Autotrader, one at £8,990 and one at £10,795. What’s that about?

We thought you'd left.

I'm not sure why you've ventured onto this thread; your disdain for the original thread was obvious by your complaint to the moderators a while back.

Anyway, live and let live, so thanks for the wisdom of your contribution.

I'm not sure why you've ventured onto this thread;

So sorry - I didn't realise that you spoke for the entire forum, or that I needed to consult you before I posted. The OP clearly needs a reality check and I'm happy to provide one.

BTW, ukcruiser, check your PMs, please. :)

Your acuity is unparalleled, though from where you draw the moral authority to use the word "needs" is nearly a mystery; perhaps the word "happy" - which goes so nicely with your avatar - is a clue. Reality check or no, the parenthetical barb at the end is why you really posted.

Guys pls!

No fights!

Thanks to Argee - for your input, any input is constructive and i know your intentions are good.

Thanks Jingxi for the reality check.

And Silver for your thoughts as well.

I bought the car in good faith and i will sell in good faith.

Niggly points i will not mention - and it will not cause the buyer to lose money or unsafe.

Major problems i will point out - but i dont recall any mechanical issues/noises nor warning lights.

I am also trying to sell my summer car (selling both my cars now!)

Both i aim at the top end of the asking price.

U dont try, u dont know.

Both cars i am unwilling to lower the asking price.

And both cars i LIKE to sell on, but dont have to.

In the end, i have a Plan B - that i would keep both cars.

Advertising on the likes of gumtree or £15 ebay classified is not too much money to just test the market :-)

Any thoughts, inputs, comments MOST welcome.

Whether bad news, honest opinions or heads up.

But please keep my thread respectful - i am sure u will all do...

Wayne, purely for financial reasons, I'd keep hold of it. As mentioned in a few posts, selling so soon after you bought the car is basically financial suicide.

If you don't NEED to sell, don't. Yes, you're losing out on a bit of ooomph, but not many cars will touch the Superb in terms of size and value for money.

The £9k area sounds about right for a private sale, yes there will be like for likes on Autotrader etc for more money, but mainly at dealers, and that is generally where the public will buy. They will pay that extra for the extra peace of mind, the Sale of Goods Act helps them there. Whereas buying private, you cannot guarantee what you're getting, and there's no protection for the person who is shelling out £XXXX's for the car.

My 2p's worth, but maybe stick with it for a tad longer.

The Audi has played with your mind. Audrey only had a little scrape. Your superb is a lovely car - enjoy it for a while longer.

Both your car and ray's will be competing against brand new pre face lift 170DSGs being offered here at the moment at £19s. I'm not sure I could justify paying 12+ against that price of new.

Cheers mate.

Completely understand - and thanks for your input!

Wayne what are the reasons for wanting a petrol version over the diesel?

Noise?

Power?

DPF?

My money would be on a Shark remap, best of both worlds and you would not consider swapping it for a petrol version then.

Noise and smooth delivery of power really, plus the can't put foot down without wheel spin.

Noise/clatter: guess can't do anything about this :-(

Smooth power delivery: I guess a remap will fix this

Wheel spin: better tyres?

A remap would void my warranty unless I get those ones

Which I can switch to default settings myself (without incurring additional costs).

But what would be the best + additional costs if I need such remap?

You can do something to quieten down the clatter Wayne: use diesel that is high in cetane. Shell Fuelsave has highest cetane rating (more so than their own gas-to-liquid super diesel). Something like Millers Ecomax added in every tank will also boost the cetane rating, resulting in a more complete burn of the fuel and less diesel clatter from the engine.

With some earlier non-CR models, you could get an electronic box which connected to the on-board computer via the diagnostic port. This box contained a copy of the original engine map and a new, modified map. You could change them yourself, if and when you needed to. That option is no longer available, as the mapping is now done by modification to an ECU (which I think has to be removed first). This means that, once mapped, you would need to go back to the mapper for a revision or return to the original map.

Cheers Jake - u mean i shud swop v-power for fuelsave?

Cheers Ray - have looked into that option. But as u say, will cost me again if i want to revert to original mapping :-(

Yes, fuelsave is higher in cetane than vpower. Although you may not notice much difference, as vpower itself has a high cetane rating.

Take a look at Bluefin mapping. You'd need them to 'enable' your ecu to be remapped first (you go to one of their dealers), but once this has been done you can then revert back to your original map yourself with the supplied handheld machine that just plugs into the normal in-car port. You should see c.200bhp from your 170.

Your wheelspin may be your tyres. What do you have on Auds, and what do you have on the Audi?
