throttle delay ?

Featured Replies

hi there, i mostly drive my octavia 1.9tdi which has instant throttle responce but i occasionally drive my partners 1.4 16v fabia sport which seems to have a delay between your foot and anything happening under the bonnet. i know diesels have lots of torque but i owned an old 1.1 polo running a carb which felt more responsive. is this the norm for these or does mine need checking out ? it drives fine but you just have to remember to allow for the delay when pulling away so you dont stall it.

It might be worth giving the ECU a re-set.

Switch off EVERYTHING, disconnect the battery for 30 minutes, without touching any pedals or switching anything on, re-connect and idle for 30 minutes.

I have read a fair bit on here about throttle delay on these engines (mine is 100bhp 1.4 16V) - supposedly due to the 'Euro' emissions standards, though I'm not really sure how it's supposed to help emissions if people have to rev to compensate!

I did stall it a few times when I first got it, but it's only my third car so I put it down to inexperience. I have absolutely no problems at the moment, but then my junction style is quite 'bitey' ;-)
