Setting up sub and amp

Featured Replies

Just one for you audio lot.

I've got all standard speakers and standard head unit as well.

I managed to link up my sub and amp in the boot to the standard head unit but don't really know how to set it up properly.

It's a vibe cbr 10 spec:

RMS Power: 450w

Peak Power: 1300w

Turbo Ports: 1 x 4"

Characteristics: Loud Hard Punch

Active Amp Type: BlackBox Bass I

Don't know if it means much to anyone but its mainly the two things you can adjust on the amp, Possibly Gain and freq? I don't know if they should both be high or equal or what?!

Any advice is appreciated, thanks :)

Not 100% on these, trying to remember from college, but think it's along the lines of:

Frequency is for setting just how much off the lower frequencies you want the sub to produce. Higher frequency = more notes. More notes doesnt equal better as they start getting out of the bassy range.

Gain is how much power the sub draws. More power = More noise. Too much gain can cause damage to the sub though as it could try to draw more than it can produce.

Well that helps me understand them a little better anyway, thanks!

They are both on 50% at the minute.

Gain: Tweak so bass is slightly more audible than you'd normally want. When driving, background noise will tend to mask the bass. So at standstill you'd want it a bit louder.

Subsonic: Worth taking out very low frequencies if it doesn't affect the bass you want to hear. Try it OFF or set to "just" on, at it's lowest freq. If it doesn't seem to affect the sound, leave it on.

LPF: Set between 80-120hz.

How is the sub connected to the head unit? By pre-outs or by speaker level connections? Front pre-out set would be better than other options.
