Picked my car up today...question

Featured Replies

I picked up my Fabia 1.2 Tsi 105 DSG Elegance today  I was going to wait for the DVLA to process my private plate but it seems 'cuts' have meant there is a delay so I will drive on the original plates until the transfer is through. It seems I have DRL's built into the front fogs but the handbook is not clear. I just noticed that when I switched them on there were two smaller bulbs in the housing not lit. There is a provision to switch DRL's on (according to the handbook) via a switch in the dash panel fusebox. My question is, are these indeed DRL's? and does the law insist if we have them we should use them?. By preference I would like them left off.

Drls are indeed separate bulbs. The switch you seek is behind the panel covering the fuse box if i remember right. Under the steering wheel.

Enjoy your new car.

You are not required to have DRL's on during daylight and when the are set to come on automatically with the engine,

they will go out when you switch on Side or Headlights.

Cheers mate, I suspected these were the DRL biubs. Just wondering if it is legal to have them switched OFF. Sounds a daft question but if it is true all newer cars must have them, is it compulsary to use them or am I ok leaving them off?

Thanks George, that answers my question. Havent stopped playing with the car since picking it up. Spent an hour with the manual just sitting in the car and fiddling. The 'Swing' radio is awesome compared to my last 'Dance' model and am loving the maxi dot.

Soon to be law on new cars but not yet I leave mine on as other cars see you better and not pull out on you

Fine to leave them off, just the EU now requires manufacturers to have them fitted to new type approvals.

Have them on myself, think they are a good safety feature, although I also appreciate others do not agree.

TP

It is Law (or regulation) that all cars Type Approved after February 2011 must have them fitted as standard.

Mk2 Fabias were Type approved before Feb 2011.

No UK requirement to use them on any car fitted with them, and no law change on that.

Cheers guys. I agree it's safer to have them on as people can see you better but hey!! the new car is SPRINT YELLOW!!! beats any DRL's :giggle:

I agree I have had a yellow one people do look. Would have had a yellow monte but I will not pay for colour

Congratulations on an excellent choice of car :)

Also pleased, cos I never realised I had DRLs. Not sure I'll use them but nice to know they're there.

Cheers mate, after my super little 1.2 70 HTP this is a wow!! I spent today prepping the paint work and getting a good coat of Collinite wax on it. Looks amazing. Yes it's nice to know the lights are there if needed but as I said, if anyone can't see my sprint yellow they have serious problems!! Love the car!.
