13 reg keeping people away?

Featured Replies

Friend of mine just got hold of a new Audi, it was delivered early, the car salesman was saying some people are steering clear of the 13 plates for superstitious reasons. Sounds like a great time to cut a deal on new cars to me...

I heard you can opt for a 62 plate for no extra charge if the 13 bothers you, or you can personalise, for me I have always been lucky with the no 13 so quite happy to stick one on my car!

Perhaps it is simply a case of not wanting to pay for the depreciation if it is their own cash and a reflection of the economic situation. Or not enough incentives. My boss collected his new 13 reg A4 specced-up diesel yesterday and said the deal was really sweetened to the extent it was cheaper to buy new than the 9 month old example on the plot.

I don't think I've had a single customer mention the ' dreaded' 13 plate yet.

For Skoda UK March was a record month of 10,000 registrations - no 13 plate knock on by the looks of it.

I went for an 02 personalised plate only cost £250 from DVLA paperwork arrived within a week and as it was a new car there was no hassle or plate swapping

Bro-in-law is delaying until Sept to get a 63. First time he has taken a car for MOT in 30 years!

His daughter took a ready built 62 Fiesta rather than spec her own and get a 13.

Supersticous carp! I get my 13 in a week or so.

I have too noticed this, usually by this time the new number plates are in full swing, but i am struggling to see at least one 13 plate a day, it wouldn't really bother me have a 13 plate, my wife is dead superstitious though, i thought she would have made a song and dance about me getting a new car at the start of the year, but i got mine in January so its a 62 plate, she is more afraid (or was) of my niece in laws 58 plate vectra, cause 5+8 =13. she now has a 13 plate zafira and this doesn't bother her, it was her old vectra that got he worried due the the 58 in the reg

Looks like that knocks the 13 adverse theory on the head. Perhaps there are more people going for 13 regs because they think they can get a good deal than there are believers in woo. Perhaps most new car buyers could not give a ,,, about the reg. They just want a new car.

I think that's pretty much the case. While 13-reg cars may be thin on the ground in Scotland (on United 11's evidence), there's no shortage of them in and around London. Without having conducted any kind of scientific research, I seem to have seen more 13s so far than I recall having seen 11s, 61s, 12s or 62s following their respective introductions over the past two years.

Plenty in Hampshire / West Sussex as well, although to date I have only seen one Mk.3 Octavia on the road

I was at Supercar Sunday at Goodwood this morning, I can now honestly say that I've seen more Ferrari 458 Italias and one more Lamborghini Aventador than I have seen of the latest Skoda Octavia on the road!

My wife just took a car with a 13 plate, she didnt like the thought of a 13 plate, but thought what the heck lets have it and now its outside on the car it actually looks quite good, better than a 62 or 63 or something, personally I prefer the 1x numbers as opposed to 6x numbers?

On my way home this afternoon a Race Blue Octavia Mk.3 with bi-xenon lights went passed me westbound on the M27. Looked really magnificent and to be honest a lot more up market than the Mk.7 Golf that went passed me a few minutes earlier. What a stunning colour race blue is on the new Octavia, I do hope I'm as impressed when I see my own Denim Blue car for the first time tomorrow! I really like the LED day running lights that come with the bi-xenons, they stand out nicely, even in today's bright sunshine, without looking gaudy like the latest Audis do.

Front only, single bar of light under the headlight cluster. if you want rear LED's it's a £150 extra - I've ordered them on mine.

Thanks very interesting to know

can't say I've seen any 13 plates yet though I suspect that's more to do with the recession than superstition.

We now have a 131 plate this year in Ireland.

I've never been superstitious so didn't even give it a thought until I read this thread. Still happy I've got a '13' plate Monte.
