Dump valve

Featured Replies

I've got a standard 03 plate octavia vRS that I plan to add horses to. I also really love the sound of a dump valve, can anyone tell me, can I fit a Forge twin piston dump valve to my car as it stands or do I need the re-map and induction kit first. I need all the help and guidance I can get as it's my first performance car and I know nowt. Can Anyone help? Dale.

Dale you don't need a remap and induction kit before you fit the dump valve. All petrol turbo cars have to have one so the turbo doesn't stall and damaged itself IIRC. The Octy has one that feeds back into the airbox already but it so quiet you wouldn't notice it much. I don't have an Octy but others can give recommendations on which ones to go for.

BTW Welcome

thanks for the info on the dump valve. Bought one off E-bay for real cheap. A twin piston Forge dump valve. Only been on this blokes car for a week, said he had to sell it coz his missus said everyone was staring at them. Don't understand her thinking, I love it when people stare at my shiney black vRS. Some performance geezer told me though, that I'd need more bhp before the dv can be fitted. I know where I'll be going to ask advice from now on. Cheers ****yboy!

You'll probably find that if it's an atmos valve, it won't work very well. The twin piston design gets around a lot of the problems cars with MAF meters suffer, but the VAG 1.8T does certainly have a reputation for being unhappy about atmospheric valves.

I've tried an atmos valve on my octy for a couple of weeks just for a laugh, and to be frank it ran like a bag of ****e until I took it off. Didn't pull well, jerky acceleration.

My advice - don't bother. Buy a Bailey DV30 recirc valve and sell the atmos.

Your performance geezer was getting a bit confused. Basically the noise an atmospheric dump valve gives off is directly related to the amount of boost being dumped through it. The more boost (which generally means more bhp) the louder it gets.

One thing to consider - which may or may not be relevant (forgive my ignorance of the Octavia vRS induction set up) but you may have problems running an atmospheric (ie. noisy) dump valve if the car uses an air mass meter to monitor airflow into the engine. Since the AMM is usually mounted close to the air box, and the dump valve is mounted between this and the inlet manifold, any boost that is dumped through the dump valve is air that has already been measured by the AMM. Therefore, when changing gear or quickly letting off the throttle the engine is temporarily getting less air than it thinks it is, resulting in temporary over fueling. Might cause the odd stumble when putting your foot down again. However this doesn't seem to effect all cars with AMMs in the same way. The reason the silent recirculating type of dump valve is OK is because that tends to dump the air back into the inlet system instead of 'leaking' it out.

Apologies for the ramble. It's either type away on here or get my company accounts up to date :-( Anyhoo - you can't go wrong with a Forge DV - great quality. Have been using them for ages and all they need is an annual stripping down, cleaning and regreasing to go on for ever.

I'm probably gonna sound like a total fool but what's, "pikey mods" at B&Q not halfords, mean. Dale.

Pikey Mods are cheap (and usually effective mods) that you can DIY.

Usually involved ducting and mesh hence the B+Q referance.

got the DV on and it sounds great. Definate improvement in turbo lag, especially changing from 3rd to 4th at about 80-90mph. Well chuffed. First mod apart from cosmetic stuff. Now for more horses!!!!!!!

I had a Forge atmos DV on my Octy vRS for about 5 days, sounded great, posted on here about having no problems, then lo and behold the engine management light came on on the fifth or sixth day of having it fitted, engine was less responsive, so took it straight off again and reset the light. Think everyone who has tried atmos DVs with their Octy, on here at least, has experienced similar problems, not worth the hassle, if you want the noise, better to get a cold air induction kit, think there is a bit of DV noise with them fitted, and they won't create MAF problems...

Took it straight off. Heard nowt but bad reports about DV's. Managed to sell it for more than i paid for it too. Result.

Get a bailey DV30, its a direct replacement for the standard one... And isn't an atomopheric one just like the standard one.

If you really want a MMMMWWWHHHCCCCSSSSHHHHHHH sound, they get one of these babies http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/carbonio.html

If you like the sound you could also go for a DV30 and induction kit from Jabba Sport.

i have and mine sounds like an atmos.
