My partner and I both wanted the golf to. It felt very well built, comfortable, room in back for children. Reasonable spec. Ultimately though it was the dreadful dealer that killed the deal. Never returned phone calls, never gave me part ex price, even after requesting again over phone. No brochures or any information.Rude and arrogant. The mk5 gt sport I bought off them was ok, but again the sales and service was poor then. It has not improved at all over the years.

Pumatron, sums up my thoughts perfectly. It's as though they are so sure their product is superior, that they don't need to try hard to sell it!

Error. Muppets.

What is it about German car dealers? In my area Scotthall BMW = crap. Peter Cooper VW not used them but I know several who have and same as Pumatron's dealer. Porsche Bournemouth = awful. As a general observation if a dealer is part of a large group such as Jardines or Inchcape then that is normally a warning sign!

I attended the Nottingham Post Motor Show and Autokarna on Sunday at Wollaton Park in Nottingham where several dealers had cars on display, so it was an opportunity to try various makes for size. I fitted well in the Octavia III me being (6ft 1 high) but the Golf Mk 7 was a different story. My head was pressing on the roof lining. When I complained the salesman said "Have you lowered the seat sir" . Well of course I had and then he just walked off. I adjusted the recline and I was so far back that the steering wheel was difficult to reach.

So the Golf is not for me in the future. They've ruined it, it's just like the old days when I had to be highly selective which cars I could fit in.

Octy III for me in future as the roof height is still generous.

Cheers

Jonno

Sorry everybody but we are so unimpressed with the Octy III that we have just ordered a Golf GTI. Good trade in on the Vrs and on a PCP the monthly payment is comparatively low even with the Performance Pack on the GTI. We just think the styling is very mundane on the Octy and even with VRS tweaks it will still look boring. Its a shame as we have enjoyed our current VRS but the 0% deal clinched it at the time and having just finished the mortgage we have more money to waste on motorcars.

Sounds good, fancy sharing what sort of deal you got?

PS the wife bought a Golf GT TSI and I have to say it is absolutely f00king amazing!!! Peach of an engine (certainly doesn't feel like it's 60-70bhp down on a VRS), auto handbrake/hill hold is great, cracking build quality and great little features/touches all over....

Enjoy
