Featured Replies

You are the one who lit the fire now stand back and watch it burn :D

Pmsl well said!

booked in for tomorrow local powerflow garage £90 will get pictures up when done

Where is this? Powerflex quoted me £130 + VAT just to change the tip in my system. He reckoned it was an hours labour.

I laughed in his face.

watch it all the way through :)

Also then spot the mistake!

Powerflow in mansfield (mr tyre on chesterfield road south)

My bro did decat his car and noticed that the acceleration became annoying rubberband like. It was Vauxhall cdti though. Has anyone noticed this kind of behaviour in Vag diesels after decat? I'm thinking could it be that flow area is bigger now resulting slower combustion gas speed = less turbo spin and less charge on low revs?

Weirdly, you can indeed lose power by increasing the flow potential of a turbo exhaust, although not in this case.

If a standard exhaust flows well enough to pass the exhaust gas then increasing the flow potential by modifying the exhaust system will simply make no difference.

On the other hand if you take a standard 2.25" bore exhaust system and throw it away to fit a 3.25" bore system then you will lose power because you are making the exhaust gases travel more slowly in the larger system and this does increase back pressure which acts as a drag on the turbine actively slowing spoolup. You would feel this as a loss in midrange torque although the top end would be unaffected.

Matching the exhaust to the engines pumping capacity is very important and the manufacturer is very careful to do just that because any loss in performance hurts fuel efficiency.

The standard Fabia systems are extremely well designed and far better than the vast majority of pattern and so-called performance systems.

On the other hand a heavily modified car with substantially higher pumping efficiency will need a bigger exhaust system.

So, no, you're not losing any power with a properly executed mufflerectomy, but you won't be gaining anything either since the system is not restrictive in the first place.

I agree, I like to think as exhaust pulses as plates following each other in a undisturbed uniformed pattern, with incorrect diameter they get disrupted and don't follow each other and get jumbled up not pushing and pulling each other out thus effecting performance.

The mistake is simple, starts of with a pd130, then blabs on about pd150 at the end

Ive got mine decat'd for 5 weeks and recently had a muffelerctomy done (backbox removed 2.5" pipe and tip fitted) aswell an ive only noticed that it sounds much better not garishly loud but nice an throaty and no power loss at all..

So it's been done and it looks good went for oval again to make it look standard, but the sound is very nice!! Nice steady driving no real difference but foot down and it's nice and throaty. All in all a buy, will get pictures and video up
