Hard wired USB Charger in Rear of Car

Featured Replies

So i bought a set of footwell lights off ebay, and noticed the seller also sold these 12v DC to 5v 3A USB Plugs, so i got one to see as it wasn't expensive

So i had to take the trim out to route wires for the footwell lights anyway so i did this at the same time.

First dilemma "Where to put it in the back?"

Sat in the back seat, a rare occurrence, and i was thinking around the ashtray in the centre, but there isn't really any where to put it there, so then i noticed the little angle part on the back of the B pillar trim..... so a plan was hatched

Unit:

Measured up and carefully drilled the holes for the mounting screws and the 4 corners

Mounted in the trim, had to be careful as the seatbelt runs up and down the middle so didnt want the wire rubbing

And then finally fitted in the car, voltage fed from switched live in the fusebox which i use for the phone handsfree

Just need to paint the screw heads black i think

And then charging the tablet

I guess now i need to order another for the other side or there may be a fight in the back :)

Thumbs up, nice and discrete.

Nicely done. Do you have the link for the USB charger socket?

Looks handy but I would you black screws to hold it in rather than the silver ones.

Good idea that and looks a nice clean job.

Nice idea. Instead of screws try araldite.

Yeah i didnt have black ones, might just put some paint on them

Nice idea. Instead of screws try araldite.

the mount has nuts built in and i was afraid that if i stuck them either it would be hard to hold in position for long enough due to the angle etc, and that eventually when the kids plug a lead in if it came loose it would fall down inside.

Looks good. A few of us at work have been searching for this. I had ordered just the converter part but getting it all as one makes it much easier and its fairly priced too.

Now just need to work out where to put mine. Center Console? Ash tray
