So, went to take a wheel off tonight to discover that the tyre guys have helpfully mangled the wheelnut key such that I can't undo the nut. How kind!

Can you get replacement keys to match the nuts?

Yeah your local skoda dealer should be able to furnish you with a replacement.

They did that to me too, using the impact gun mangles them. It was around £13 from TPS but they'll need the number off the old one.

A replacment is £30 quid from the dealer - you need to tell them the letter on the end of the key before they can order one. It also comes with one new bolt too just incase the key + bolt are both knackered.

Most important: CHANGE TYRE GUYS!

No serious tyre fitter should tighten the wheel bolts by impact gun. Only those aiming at saving time do it.

This way they overtighten the bolts, risking stripping and making them almost un-doable when you're on the side of a road with a puncture.

I usually change my winter/summer tyres myself using a dyno key and when I need new tyres I go to a tyre fitter who does the same. Believe me, it doesn't make a great difference in price – if any – but it MAKES a difference in practice (as you already discovered).
