Fuel Filler Hole

Featured Replies

I believe that this problem is strongly related to the specific design of the pumps ... some are incredibly sensitive and will trip out after just a few litres unless you hold the nozzle in a particular position and feather the trigger a little.

Oh please, no, you're making this way too easy

Robert!

Corner. NOW!

You've got away with it for far too long in this thread. :giggle:

Ejstubbs, I think some of the problem is caused by the design of the filler neck on some cars, petrol or diesel.

Some is caused by the subtle design differences in the nozzles, which might explain that different company forecourts are more prone to the pumps cutting out.

The third factor could be the flow rate of the pumps. Some have a higher flow (I was going to say 'pumping' but i'm not making it that easy) rate so are more prone to fuel backing up in the filler neck.

I've noticed that Esso stations seem to fill the tank quicker that the Tesco stations round here.

My diesel has a different fuel filler hole to that?

It certainly doesn't have that little plastic "mod" on it.

Thinking about it, as the petrol "nozzle" is thinner, i'd expect those to have a misfuel protector on it and not the diesel?

O and whoever's image that was, you've dribbled a bit. :giggle:

And welcome to the forum (mad house) , you will get to know us

As for filling you will get use to it and it will wear with use and be easier to fill (over to you Bob :bandit::rofl: )

I think TP is working late tonight, so we will have to improvise until then

Yes work the 'late shift' as well Tuesdays and Thursdays (night classes).

The item in question slightly blocking the filler neck is the vent outlet which runs up the side of the filler pipe from the tank.

Petrol cars have a different filler due to the smaller nozzle on forecourt pumps and the later 2wd diesels may also differ in design, as they have the conventional golf VI fuel tank rather than the Tiguan saddle tank of the 4x4 and MY10 2wd.

Oh while in Switzerland I noticed the diesel forecourt pumps have a large metallic flap covering the pump nozzle, which you have to lift up to remove the nozzle from the pump set. Good idea I think but you can still, if half asleep, end up putting petrol in your diesel :S

hope of help,

TP

Well good evening gentlemen and thank you for your spirited responses. I shall stop panicking now that there's something wrong with my Yeti as it is indeed like the image that Wakev posted.

Now ... if anyone can help me with the rattling round me rear end I would be most appreciative :-) and yes I am talking about my car. A Yeti, 4x4 Elegance TDI ... 12months old but only three months with me.

Welcome,

have the same issue of a rattling rear (Monster not the owner). So the Lincoln dealer is having her in next week for a few days to look at this and sort out a few other small warranty jobs and do an A/C service; had the Hull dealer look at the rattle before but without success.

Is this noise internal or external? If internal, the rear seat belt buckles provided me with endless trips around the block to try and identify a rattle.

They were rattling on the plastic trim above the wheelarches, lead them around the headrests and no more rattles..

I found that the slots in the rear wheel arches are for the rear belt buckles to push into.

Rattles fixed .

we rarely carry any people in the rear, so leave ours plugged into the buckles.

Hmm be interesting to know if my car has the same rattle.

I have a car seat in the back which always rattles so it's unlikely i'd ever notice.

Might have to take it out and go for a trip...

Paranoid?

:notme: that will be SWMBO then, always gets it down the paint and on the floor :giggle: , and that drain hole is blocked again always cleaning it out.

Good afternoon dear folks.

Thank you for your comments on my rattling Yeti, it's still rattling, am about to phone the wakefield dealer and if I get no joy will take it elsewhere. Their service manager told me I'd have to 'live with it' last time I took it in. Hardly helpful that eh?

I've had it less than four months, it really shouldn't rattle this badly.

Ta muchly. And am learning to live with the weird filler nozzle obstruction thingy :-)

...And you're giving him a second chance?

Do I have an alternative?

Do I have an alternative?

I would have thought so, if there's another dealer or suitable independent within reach

...and if I get no joy will take it elsewhere....

That's unacceptable in my view. If all else fails contact SUK and complain.

Thanks Guys. I've only had the car four months and the service has been pretty poor. Think I'll find another dealer :-)
